rasbull Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Has anyone tried or used this? It looks very interesting, but what if the bird that the film is attached to is lost? The system costs £125 so is expensive if you attach it to the wrong bird! How does that work if the cam is lost? Anyone know?
rasbull Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Posted April 2, 2009 obviously no one heard of it apart from me
leighton1984 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 did get email from gem about it but for me will not help them fly any faster lol some will have it
Beanz Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 One guy in our club has bought it and is going to try it this time. Paul
pjc Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 it looks a good idea but would be better if it was a real time tracker and not have to download data on return. Surely they must be able to supply the sensor without the kit.
hosepipe Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 have heard about it. i think it would be a great idea if you could log on to the net on race day and watch in real time overlaid on a map a little red dot where abouts in the country your bird is, but would think that's never going to happen. great idea doe. 8) 8) 8)
hosepipe Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 thanks for the link pjc looks very good and can be used to keep an eye on other's movements no just the birds..
Guest spin cycle Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 i think the battery only lasts about 4 hours or so....but i would think some organisations may lib a 'drone' bird with the racers..to get an idea of line on the shorter races. i don't know whether i'd want to watch them live on web....but thats probably a way off anyway....intriguing idea though.
Guest Owen Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I have got it wrong, I think. I thought you could watch the progress of your bird in the same way as a sat nav. So what happens then?
Guest spin cycle Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I have got it wrong, I think. I thought you could watch the progress of your bird in the same way as a sat nav. So what happens then? don't think so ...way i read it . you loosed the bird with the pack then when it returns , take off the pack, plug it into your computer on google earth and shows the route/speed/altitude that the bird took back from release point. i'm not an expert just way i interpretated it.
pjc Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 the sensor/gps plots the birds route, when the bird arives home you take it off the bird and download the data to a pc which plots the birds route.
pigeonpete Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Looks very interesting, but what does happen if your bird gets hawked, wired, or simply just doesnt return?? at £125 quid a chuck, could be very costly? any one know for sure?
