Guest asha Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Sorry Pjc,I forgot to mention your experience with b macdonald` and kippax birds, which we should remember both these 2 top fanciers had superb families before they even looked at the ko nipius. another point to remember,we should never slag off another fanciers birds that does not perform for ourself, simply because, they may be a perfectly good family, but will not work with our own personal loft enviroment,Although if given time most families from trusted fanciers will bend into the role we need them for,
wayne77 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Hi Wayne, Where did you get your base Ko Nipius from,Bob Mcdonald?,Ken kippax?,if you did,i may have something down here that could well nick into them,i thought about trying myself but just have no room. I gather from your posting you like a full days racing type, which may lean towards van riel type, unless really hard day, or i might be able to persuade you have a go at Pau/Tarbes NFC which must be 640mile for you. My original bird came from clubmate, believe this came from stock bought fromSouth Wales. Then bought bird from Barber and Hilson. Bought birds from PJ lofts, these were Ken Kippax birds. Then had majority of birds from Alam Winstanley, these are from Louella in early 80's via another fancier. There is a hint of brackuis in there. Had a go at Bergerac this year so may push them there. Tarbes at moment not sure :-/ but a team flying Saintes on day consistently is the main aim. Where you from asha? what birds you got there? and what is your interest?
pjc Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Chris, there is no show standard for show racers to conform to!
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 try this one! ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i miss my show racers!!!
tippler1 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 looks like i will after look along these lines to do the channel with mite get a couple pair try them out
jimmy white Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Also depends on what traits the cock carries. What if the cock also carries dilute? Cocks also carry another colour, don't they? I find genetic stuff very hard to grasp but fascinating.(wiseman) first to pjc,, lovely silvers , be nice to see fifers yellows as the post above states genetics in pigeons is hard to grasp but very fascinating,,, i had found in the past that no matter what cheq cock was paired to this yellow hen they allways produced yellow hens and never cocks [even when the yellow hen was paired to her son ,a b cheq. but must admit this was only with one attemp,, but again i got a b cheq cock and a yellow hen,, i note that louella have selectively bred yellows , both cocks and hens ,,,,,and plenty of them just wondered how this was done?,,,,,,,,,i can only imagine that" white" which in a sence is no colour i.e. carries no colour pigment , therefore wondering if this yellow colour has been produced ,in some way through whites[having no pigment] crossed with say, a meally or silver , producing a faulty pigment colour ,,,being yellow as we know it by ?? anyone geneticly modified ;D could maybe answer this but very fascinating anyway
bewted Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Hi Bewted, Yes that`s right. like these asha,,,
pjc Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Jimmy, your pair will produce yellow cocks as long as the cock carries yellow but they will only throw a very small percentage of yellow cocks amongst the other colours they will breed.

terry mccarthy Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 yellow hen to grizzle cock bred mealy hens
pjc Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 what colour are the young cocks Terry, at a guess, all blue based?
Guest asha Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Evening Lads , Wayne i sent you ,. pm. Ted,they look just like the Tony Read type, alright too. pjc, please do not take any offence,i was just trying to generalise :B
jimmy white Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Jimmy, your pair will produce yellow cocks as long as the cock carries yellow but they will only throw a very small percentage of yellow cocks amongst the other colours they will breed. ahh got you pjc,, as when i paired a b cheq [carrying no yellow genes] allways bred yellow hens ,, hence my post earlier,,,, but then breeding this hens son [,b cheq] back to the mother [ yellow hen] still got cheq cock and yellow hen ,, but this was the one and only attempt ,, as you say, if i had persevered i may well have got the odd yellow cock,, all very interesting stuff thanks for the info
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Chris, there is no show standard for show racers to conform to! then why are they all the sane big head neck light framed boned
pjc Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Chris they are far from all the same, head size, keal length, frame size all varies. 20yrs ago they were very big, very bold heads etc, then they started to get smaller, sharper faces to suit racing judges but they have increased in size again now. Phil p.s If i'm judgeing any of the big shows come and steward, you'll be amazed how they varie!
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 yea may do that then you can see some real show winners racers :P ;D would i be able to pocket any????
jimmy white Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 try this one! i used to be very keen on the shows and judged many,, the show racers were handy also in the summer where i could put some of the best eggs that the w,hood hens laid under them,, ;D i found they were great parents ,,off course in the winter they were conditioned for the shows ,, this is a bonnie yellowhen , these yellows are very beautifull , not only to look at , but have won races in the past with them , so both the show racer yellow and the racing yellow have their uses
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 i personaly like the silver chequr
pjc Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I enjoy both racing and showing getting as much excitment out of both. Race days you sit expectantly in the garden getting a real buz when a bird shuts its wings a head for the loft, at shows its the same excitment waiting for judgeing to finish to see whats won. Phil
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 the yellow i gave to paul in penclawd was a show winner as previous owner said paul likes it not my thing really
