Guest NUMA Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 iv'e got a two year old cock that did nothing as a yb but i liked him and thought i'll see what you do as a yearling. as a yearling he was even worse taking 2 weeks to come from portland which is 159 to me,but i still liked him he's got a real personality,so this year i started him off again, he went to every race but was never in the first 5 birds home to me.so i sent him across the channel to picauville,he was my 2nd bird home.he went in land the week after and he was late again, next water race was fourgeres he was first bird home but low down on the result.he went to the next water race which was messac he made a bit of a mess of this one and was on the wing for 14 plus hrs but was full of himself when he got home ,he looked so good that i sent him to a 65 miler the following week,he was first bird home and 2nd club.he looked good and i thought right you can go to saintes which is 501 to me. on race day i was sat waiting and he came clapping up the road landed on the loft went straight in and up to his hen and danced for all he was worth he looked as fresh as when i'd sent him.iwent to clock reading that night and he'd won the club by a clear 1 and a half hours in a time of 12hrs 51 mins, and is 6th fed.my question is would you race him next season or give him a year off to breed off him?
Guest shadow Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Do not breed out of him put back over the water I would start him of at 200 miles every 2 week send him to a water race increasing the distance then see what he is made of. I never put a bird to stud until he consistenly wins or highly placed from fed channel races or MNFC races. Sprinters are a different thing.Even then would only breed of consisten t birdseg always in the first four.
Guest Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 RACE HIM AGAIN NEXT YEAR OVER THE WATER 8) AND WHEN YOU SPLIT HIM FROM HIS HEN SEND THE EGGS UP TO ME ;D
Westwater Assassin Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 KEEP RACING HIM !! IF YOUR GOING TO LET HIM REAR A YOUNG BIRD WHY NOT TAKE A PAIR OFF HIM ??
mealybar Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Yup I'd take a pair off him and put him out to the channel events again next year, could come even better next time!
GREENGRASS Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 sounds like he needs the longer races but also sounds like he was not properly motivated. what nest condition did you send him in, sitting 10 days, small youngster, big youngster, widowhood etc. me i would not give him a year off i would float his first two eggs next year and let him rear a nest of his own, them get him into shape and go to your longest event with him at his best. he sounds like a great pigeon but needs a little extra work. well done for looking after him as many a fancier would have binned him as a young bird.
Guest NUMA Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 thanks for the replies i'll race him next year. he was sent to the race sitting 14 days . i won't bring him out in the early races i'll just train him well and start him at the coast. i had a feeling this bird would repay me one day ;D
jimmy white Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 i would do exactly as you said and try him same again 14 day eggs dont change a winning system or i should say dont change a winning bird p.s send me two latebreds after he wins again next year haha very good pigeon congrats.
