mealybar Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 While at the Belgian show this weekend I spotted a new generation id ring (GB, SU, NL, equivalent); this ring has the electronic chip within the ring, which means no need for two rings anymore. See photo I was told the rings will go on sale, by unions whome approve them, starting in 2007.
Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Pleased to see this. Hopefully GPS / tracking facility too / just round the corner?
Guest Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Mealey what electronic clocks will these work with or are they Universal
MsPigeon Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Good question Hyacinth, been waiting for a universal electronic band. Maybe it will bring down the prices. It looks like the Unikon band except yellow instead of green.
mealybar Posted November 22, 2005 Author Report Posted November 22, 2005 I was told they are universal electronic chips, but they are made and patented by one company. They weigh less than the a conventional band + electronic ring, but slightly more than just the conventional band. Hungary are one of the countries introducing them in 2007, cant remember the others.
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 have heard rumor of GPS system already avaible the program is 1200 dollars and the rings about 5 dollars we are going in on this with another guy in club he is going to buy it we will give him 100 bucks to track our birds
Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Brought to top for MsPigeon's query in 'ETS'.
MsPigeon Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Does anyone know what ETS they work with and where to get them, price etc??????
mealybar Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 If I remember correctly they were made to work with all electronic timing systems.
pigeonpete Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 great idea and will work but how easy would it be for the rings to get damaged etc? just wondered as if the electronic ring get damaged in any way it would make the bird un raceable?? might be just being thick but dont know much about these rings thanks pete
mealybar Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 I suppose you could put one of the normal ETS rings on if the chip failed. Not that I've heard of a ets ring failing (stand to be corrected..lol).
Chatrace Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 I suppose you could put one of the normal ETS rings on if the chip failed. Not that I've heard of a ets ring failing (stand to be corrected..lol). We have had some go bad and even had some that came bad when new. I would sugest you put them all in a clock and try them a couple times in a training mode. and yes you could always fly to the band # and have it assigned to another snap-on chip like we do now. Of the 300 bands I have bought maybe 4 were bad or went bad.
MsPigeon Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 But where can I get these bands?????? The new one in all universal band?
Guest Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Carol, The chip rings which are supposed to be universal caused all sorts of problems when I was flying in Washington State, they failed quite often and took ages to register in the club unit on shipping nights. We have a Unikon system and buy only the Unikon Chip rings and have had very little problems

Mealybar's post does say that these are 'a new generation' of ring and I would expect that previous problems would have been corrected in any update. 5 failures per 500 rings is far too high and couldn't be termed 'reliable' electronics. For example, Six Sigma manufacture (the gold standard, manufacturing excellence) aims at no more than 1 failure per 1 million.

The competition may bring the price down as well. I agree, little or no problems with Unikon and Unikon bands. Just expensive.
