snowy Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 personaly im not sure hard 2 tell in the light in the pic. black splashes cocks brown splashes hen how long have u had these birds in your loft snowy ? & did the lady who gave them 2 you have them flying out ? it might just be they are taking longer to settle in haveing lost there fredom . an avary on the stock section can help but would warn if u get a lot of hawks near u this can lead 2 tears as a paniced pigeon can do itself fatal damage flying into the wires, my father lost his best ever breeding hen this way Tho in balance many say getting the sun on there backs when they can gives healthyer birds n healther youngsters ps browsed your site b4 m8 nice birds id never heard of putmans before n asked the old man n he hadnt heard of them for years he said. breed an extra pair for stock just in case i would nice 2 see ppl keeping the old rather than buying loads of the latest fashion birds all the best for 2006 n good luck with the mealy had these birds a 3-4 months now, the mealy still wont settle & just keeps running from the cock, ive had them in a large rabbit hutch for 5 days & the cock that is with her, keeps roaring, but she just wont accept him, oh well
Diamond dave Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Hi Snowy Dont be too hasty with the breeding mate. Theres hundreds of reasons why they may not go together. Sometimes you have to accept that its not going to happen as easy as that. If I am truthful, my breeding this year has only been about 70% successful and the 30% failure is mostly caused by young birds let alone latebreds!! Be patient, if its a stock bird you may still get a couple of rounds from them if you split them now. Look to the future mate - Dont be so anxious - it makes you do irrational things. Good luck with them!!!
snowy Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 cheers all & diamonddave, still not 100% if cock or hen, she/he just wont do nothing, i think its because its been raced before > might keep mealy hungry & try & break her
