SoCalFlyer Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I am a new flyer and this will be my first season. I am breeding from three pairs and have decided to fly against myself this season as I learn the game. I would like to ask the board members how I can evaluate my birds, at season end, since I am new to the sport and will not be racing against any competition. Is there certain things I should look for and what should I record so I can have some decent info to evaluate. Thanks for your help.
THE FIFER Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 IT WOULD BE GOOD IF THERE WAS SOMEONE WHO TRAINS BIRDS IN UR AREA TO TAKE UR'S WITH THEM ON A FEW OCCASIONS,
Guest cloudview Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 you never know with y/birds ;plenty of good grub and tlc all treated the same eqelley; there,s not much to evaluate, get yourself a notebook mark down those always late , one,s consistently in front , and the wind direction , mind you this can all change as old birds there,s no hard and fast rules . anyway good luck
jimmy white Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 YES, CAN ONLY SAY,KEEP A NOTE BOOK , AND MARK IN EVERY DETAIL, ITS TRUE THAT GOOD YBS DONT ALLWAYS MAKE GOOD OLD BIRDS, BUT WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE THEM COMMING WELL.
Guest Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Where in So Cal are you ?????. There are a lot of clubs down there and I think an opportunity for you to put your birds on their training truck and you can see how they do against other flyers pigeons
Diamond dave Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Hi Socal, The best way to evaluate your birds is fly them against opposition - Keep your three pairs as stock birds and enjoy the sport racing the young ones. Young birds are best raced in the year of their birth even if its only one or two races. Just my twopenneth Socal - good luck with them whatever you do!!
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 put them in the basket don't make the mistake a lot of folks do you are better off with 1 good one than a loft full of junk some new guys will shelter their birds with the line of reasoning that I dont have many so I better be extra careful with the few I have and they wont fly them so a few years down the line they have a loft full of birds that were never proven and are too old and ill equiped to do any real racing set your standards and bring the quality of your flock to that standard fly your yb's unmercifully and you should come out with some decent birds breed these back to their parents and then breed from these stock lines again dont let anyone tell you to conserve, worry about yb racing and the old birds will take care of its self
