Guest Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I have been flying Van Reets for about 15 years now. This year we have bred a young bird with a definate frill front, this is something I have never seen before in a SVR, has anyone else??? We breed in individual pens so we know the parentage is correct.
pigeonpete Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Hi bought some staf van reets last year from louella pair of mealies!! one of the ybs off them this year has got a frill never seen anything like it on a racing pigeon before!!

Guest Silverwings Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 linda have had frill breasted birds in the past on most counts the birds were very close bred many of the same lines going in over and over ? but the good news was these frills turned out good producers ......ray
deanbruton Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I have janssen based birds and this year for the first time have reared 4 yb's with frill breasts. Like other posts maybe to do with inbreeding.
Jack Barkel Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Hello All, When the introduction of fancy pigeons came about to produce the racing pigeon as it is today, two of the introductions was the Owl and the Smerle. Both of these birds although assisting with a lighter structure of bird than the original Carrier and Dragoon, they carried this frill. They were chosen because of high flying ability, what I say has been especially true over the last 100 years. Now when regressing to the frill, these birds will be found to get water saturated in the frill very quickly, and need fine days to perform up to standard. This can happen in any type of close breeding today and must be guarded against for it is a sign of regression. I hope this will help solve your doubtfulness of where the gene for the frill has suddenly raised it's ugly head. Regards Jack
TheSaddler Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Interesting post Jack, My best stock cock (Now 11 years old) has bred his fair share of winners, even fed winners. He has a frilly breast but he's never been raced though. Interestingly enough he his off a father to daughter mating and he's the only frill that has ever appeared in my birds (FVW based). This cock certainly tends to indicate that your post is correct.
rockinrick Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 i have a pair of marcelis that have frills on their chests ,been told they are nest m8s so i put it down to cross breeding back in line rockinrick
Mike Lycett Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Our No.1 Van Den Bosche hen was aptly named "Frilly". Wish we still had her now.....
JAS Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 our janssen hen that we sold last year was a frillshe was dam g\dam of lots of winners and breeders of winners. her dtr. was 2nd club 3rd fed 2740b on sat past. Only had one frill from her and he bred 2 frist before he was taken with the hawk right in front of loft.
schouwman71 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Hi My no1 janssen cock bred by louella in 1988 was a light red cheq cock bred off stamvater and sheer elegance,he had a long frill on his chest when he was cooing it use to part,he was sire of 18x1sts individual prize winners and his blood is still winning today,i also had a honeysuckle lofts janssen hen with a frill and she bred winners aswell,i noticed the ones with frills seem to breed winners and maybe it is due to inbreeding, wish i still had this cock now it broke my heart when he died at 13 years old.
