Guest slugmonkey Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 We just had our last race of the season another bad 600 there were 250 birds released with just 12 being reported in race time I had 1 home on day 3, there was 1 bird home late on day 2 with the rest coming on Monday, My bird was a Veenstra/Koopman a full brother to the birds I did well with a Texas Shootout race I have seen some other members selling these birds on the auction here where I usally tell people how good they are and how much luck I have had with them but performances like this speak volumes
Guest slugmonkey Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 I have got 15 of the 21 home with the ones remaininng being auction birds or yearlings that probably wernt going to be here much longer anyhow I sent 3 of these Koopman/Veenstras and they were ALL home before most of my other birds I have sent 3 brothers to this bird that was my 1st one home 2 to the world ace challenge and another to the Mardis mercedes race so hopefully they will do as well there
Rentenier Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Slugmonkey, What do you feed for this race. Was it Hot or cold weather.
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 warm weather, feeding wasnt the issue, no one got birds back, its this course we have 3 of the TOP U.S. distance flyers of all time and some of the best birds ever ( Bill Bonwell, Dennis Wells, Look back at some of their results and how many times they have had top ranked birds and I belive they are also in the best performances of all time categories ) we have prevailing south winds for this we had 3 days of unexpected north winds with gusts as high as 35mph with 90 degree temps and high humidity I dont care what you feed before a race like this you are not getting an edge with a few peanuts or safflower seeds this is about birds and what you were feeding in December not basketing day !!! P.S. for the record I gave a mix all week of Corn, Peas, Wheat, Milo, safflower, sunflower, ( chips and seeds ) I put feed down most of the week and let them eat what they like before the race feed them all they want and then let them pack out on safflower seeds
