carl Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 wiley i have alot of changes this coming season, first of all i need to get my lofts sorted as there 100 jobs i want done this year, started doing some odd jobs around the loft and everywhere i look theres something else needs doing,New walkway to go on,new doors for every loft, garden is a mess, roof needs re pointing etc etc etc....there aint enough hours in the day at the moment.
stevebelbin Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Roof lights to have the option of more light in - with shutters if I feel its too warm in the loft. And simply to relax more with birds ;D
MsPigeon Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Add calcium supplements to the breeders diet, and try some new type of pellets. Lsat year we used Purina high pro pigeon pellets. They were GREAT! But they have to be special ordered where I live and it takes six weeks to get them. So I thought I would just try something I can get locally this year. Any suggestions? Carol
Wiley Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 im adding perspex to my roofing to allow more light into all of my lofts, and also i need to get a new shed for widowhood hens but will just be a garden shed converted to the way ive seen photos of the lofts in the USA they look beautys,i think it was Hyacinths website that i saw how to build one!
Guest Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Yes Carol, Fanciers Choice pellets are avalable in the Pacific North West and most pigeon feed places carry them, I think they are as good as purina. As for Calcium supplements, dry your chicken egg shells out in the oven, put them in a ziplock bag crush them with a rolling pin and add to your grit, plenty of natural calcium there kiddo. Hope you're not flooded or ahything like that, we have a horrible storm going on at present and I expect to loose internet connection any second now Cheers

How will you be adding perspex to your lofts - Looking at your loft piccies they are flat roofs like mine. Just interested how you will be doing it as I want to get it right with no leaks etc. Theres some flat roof in the offices where I work and they have roof lights that would work well I think.
Guest anthony Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Here we all have flat roofs,no snow,When we use the corregated sheets we put a trasperent fiber glass in the middle, and when we have concrete roofs we fix a skylight in the middle.you have a big seletion of silicons to have a water prove job

We have had local flooding over the road, keeping us home ;D, and a few trees down, but nothing worse than before and we still have power. Thanks for thinking of me. Carol
Wiley Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 I helped my dads mate do this to his loft couple of years back he achieved this by using a mastick sealer then laying the perspex on top of that screwing it down then seal it again with a product called bitchamin i think its spelt right and this is like a tar.His loft is bone dry and has been for past 2 years with no troubles
john robo Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Quoted from Wiley im adding perspex to my roofing to allow more light into all of my lofts, and also i need to get a new shed for widowhood hens but will just be a garden shed converted to the way ive seen photos of the lofts in the USA they look beautys,i think it was Hyacinths website that i saw how to build one! Wiley Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 thanks for tip mate i aint using full perspex mate just some section of my roof, alot of pigeon fanciers have this alot of lofts i visit its not full persepx that goes from back to front. All im going to do is certain sections mate so dont think i will have the problems you had with your finches.bellow is an example what im going to do john but on a flat roof.Another difference i reckon is change the colours of exteriors as presently in my widowhood i have two sections i am going to paint one a cool blue and the other a cool green instead of white. So hopefully it makes them relax more
john robo Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 am just building a new young bird loft. the roof is going to look something like the pic above. only 2 tiles high with clear roof tiles spaced out along the front.still got a bit of planning to do like how to darken up. but thats all part of the fun ;D good luck with yours mate. a friend of mine has his loft painted baby blue and swears its calmed his birds down. i like white, nice and bright.
Wiley Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 yea ive used white in past but i want my widowhood cocks and hens just to rest more mate.young birds im keeping my loft nice n white
