The foundation pigeon of the Meulemans strain was van den bosch , lovely pigeons nice feather texture, the resessive side producing the chocolate colours seem to favour the short too middle distance , yet the foundation pigeons of the famous Huyskens Van Riels were beleived to be van den bosch and those were unbeatable in their day ? even at the long distance ....ray

My best stock cock is van den bosche from Spence and Nicholls out of the driebander lines. I dont think they are so much of a mixture of strains as Andrew has suggested but are Jansen based.

The only thing I can tell you about these birds is that they are big bold pigeons that

need alot of road work to get the best from them.

They're a pretty versatile pigeon - but traditionally a bit big in the hand.  Very handsome pigeons though those Pencil Pieds.   Albert Babington had the best - then George Litherland

I use to have the van den bosch through eric roddem of newton aycliffe,co durham out of his schlepphorst stock,i had 6 direct out of his no1 stock cock, the vos prins ,they were very nice birds that loved north west winds i had the black velvet colours and they were good lookers. If you are really into finding out more on the background on the strain buy the book on albert babington by ritchard kirkbridge, its a good read aswell.

:B oops:B i think ive made a huge miscalculation then  ;D i must indeed have janssens, id just been going thru my late fathers stock bird pedigrees and presumed they were van be bosches, as the strain is not listed and they seemed to fit the strain charactoristics. all i know is that they came direct from pauw bros in the netherlands (NL rings) and from paige bros in the uk  ;D
