The White Rapido Man Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 I'm after a couple pairs of 'gay pied' racing pigeons...............racing performance is not important at all as it is the colour I'm after........ I have a spare section in my loft and had an idea about pairing them to a couple of my white rapidos, in order to selectively breed the colour out them in a few generations time..... many thanks chaps .................sorry for the duplication
Wiley Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 i think even if you paired a normal blue to your whites, mate you would get gay blue pieds and whites. Then art of selection would take place, just keeping the gay pieds that are bred,
The White Rapido Man Posted July 30, 2007 Author Report Posted July 30, 2007 no doubt Wiley.................however if I start with GP's to white......I'm guessing I'll be closer to throwing a bird with more white.....then again some of in now still throw a colour every so often..... ..............interesting is'nt it!
Wiley Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 i think the colour gentics are very intersting, hope you are successful in your search
Guest Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 yes colour genetics are fascinating and Douglas McClary's book "Pigeons For Everyone" has an excelent chapter on this but along with other books there is very little written about the colours black and white or the breeding of pieds, think more information should be written on this.
THE FIFER Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 i got a red from my whites this year, and lots of them are coming in with blue saddles and some with blue tails,
DOVEScot Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 i got a red from my whites this year, and lots of them are coming in with blue saddles and some with blue tails, Almost every bird in chickadees stock is white, and she always get coloureds amongst the young This is her third year, she is going to keep all the young whites and pair them up next year to try and dilute the coloured genes hopefully

little sam Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 there are 2 posts on this lol i answerd to ur one on wanted section m8 tyake a look and let me know
Ronnie Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 If you paired a white cock to a blue hen would you get pied's or grizzle's? I was led to believe you would get grizzle's.I allways get lost on the colour genetics thing.
The White Rapido Man Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 In theory .......yes........... But then again it depends whether or not the white cock was bred from whites....if you see what I mean the idea would be then to dilute the colours by pairing the birds that throw the most white......to a similar bird and carry this on over a few generation until white becomes the prodominant colour.... I know of a chap who developed his own line this way...and he now has over 60 birds that throw mostly white........but the odd colour is thrown back every now and then

Black is the genetic expression of the following genes:- blue(colour) + checker(pattern) + spread(colour modifyer) You could use a blue bar but the bars tend to show through in good light. There are two ways of getting white pigeons The bull-eyed recessive white & A combination of different pied markings There is a wide range of different pied markings which may be dominant or recessive. Therefore it will depend on which combination of these pied genes you have present as to how they will breed. The white tails of Danish Tumblers are recessive but the white tails of Jacobins are dominant!! Easy isn't it!
The White Rapido Man Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 not that easy nor text book I wouldnt think..............but as I mentioend before ........very interesting!!
Fair Play Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 The late Leslie Davidson (Observer) was the man for genetics some of his writings were fascinating would be interesting if the Homing World would do a reprint of his articles as they are as relevent today as they were 20 years ago
