Was extremly chuffed to find that all my matched pairs have taken......15 pairs all in all.

I locked the hens in one side of the cocks boxes for a week......vice versa with the cocks for another week...............then together for 3 days. :D :D

I open up the doors this mornign and was really pleased to see that all the cocks have started to build nests, and billing and cooing going on throughout.

Perhaps no big deal, but it will be my first years racing next year, so in past years with my Whites I have quite relaxed in my approach to breeding........

This year.....I'm on!!!!!!

Members of Foxhills FC.....................watch out ;D ;D :P

I have attached a few pictuers if anyones interested.

Some real beauties there WR Man, real beauties! Love the heavily wattled cock and his BWF Hen, and the two Dark uns in the first photo, and the Janssen type Chequer Cock, (pic 046). Well done on the quick pairing, and good luck with your first seasons racing! Keep us informed!  ;)

Thanks for your nice comments Davey.

As I am trying to form the nucleus of my own race team, I have not been too worried about about keeping the several strains I keep together, and have gone more on instinct, if you know what I mean...............some birds just seem suited don't they....and I dont know why!!!!

The dark pair you refer to is...Hen - Karel Herman..... Cock - Dordain (excuse spelling if wrong)

The heavily whattled cock is a 10 year old Van Loon to a Karel Herman Hen...he's a Beautifull  big old boy......

The Cheq cock is a KH as is the hen....

I have tried to obtain the best I can and the K'Hs and Van loon were originally form the stock lofts of the Ward Bros in South Emsall, who I know to have flown well in recent years.........

The proof, however..will be in the flying ;)

Are you continuing your release business?

.............yes

infact half of my whites are currently paired up in another section as we speak, and the Yb's will be transfered into the YB section with the race team and trained collectively, albiet they will be trained in a radius of the loft...and the racing birds will be on the South Rd

Luckily I have white stock in another location, just incase the unthinkable ever happened....  :)

Chickadee looked at it but I can't see it being a constant earner, weather and season a big factor, not the most reliable in this country. Nice if you are in the built up areas or cities but not in more rural areas :-/

very true.....................sustainable and regular........no..........more money than racing.............yes

In London its massive......I am semi- rural Lincolnshire (not the most cosmopolitan place in the world).....and have been trading for a good few years now and am well established locally which is the key.....once people get to hear about it, then you are laughing.......I am a chartered surveyor by trade.....and when I got busier, I passed the whole thing onto the wife........she does the girly thing with the basket designs and cages which is all part and parcel.......and deal with the birds.

I am almost booked up solid for summer 2008 already.......but I tend to stop sept / oct time...as the birds drop to bits in the moult, and arn't in good enough nick to send to a 'momenteous occasion'

Early on I realisd that I would make the same if I flew 10 miles or 100 miles...so in actual fact only fly my birds locally.......but have set up mutual franchises with the other release companies who pick up my national bookings for me.

Then the focus is not on the birds....but on how you advertising  ;) ;)

The best thing I did was get into a local chain of funeral directors.....the main crem is only 1.5 miles from my lofts..........and this I would say constutes about 20% of my work.

Every now and then you can jump on a biggie which is a bonus......I am just in the process of organisng a 50 bird release in March for n openening of a new shopping centre down south in March..........well worth having...........thats for sure

I only started doing it,  to pay for the corn...I love my birds and to see a huge flock of whites batched up around house takes some beating on a barmy summers teatime

It was never meant to make mega bucks, but from getting my  corn for free, I progresed to a new loft....and from there I progressed to a fortnights warm holiday every year.... 8)...so I'm happy with that......what more could one want. :)...................I enjoy my birds......make a bob or two......and its cost me £15 a month in corn :)
