Guest Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Try to wean in groups, place straw bed on the section floor, leave small grain mix in open feeder and the top off the water vessel (even if they bathe in it, at least they found where the water is!!). Any problems following this just leave a couple of the YBs mums with them for a day or two.
Guest j.bamling Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 I always wean ybs when they have featherd underneath the wings some take longer then others aswell ? and i wean them at night time about 4.00 that way the ybs are nice and full and go threw the night with a good crop the next day i always feed for 2 weeks only maple peas nothing else , The main thing with ybs is watch them you should not have to hand feed any but occasionaly you might have to i always spend lots of time with just weaned ybs and making sure once they are eating that they drink even if i have to dip them !!! i always have just water in for them at this stage .. If anybody wants to see my ybs what have just been weaned have a look on my Thread --- My 2008 Young Birds --- Thread
Tony C Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 I take them away midday and they don’t get fed until midday the following day. I sieve all the small seeds out of whatever breeding mix I’m using and feed them only on the larger grains for 2 or 3 days or until they are all eating and filling their crops. After this they go onto ordinary breeding mix afternoon feeding, I then start feeding mornings also, this feed consists of depurative/pellets/Homoform.
