MsPigeon Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I was introduced to pigeons by a dear old friend Tom (Blue Mountain Loft). Coinsidently he came from Cumberland County near Scotland. In is eighties and losing his sight, he needed a driver for training and getting to meetings and shipping. It was not long before I had 10 pigeons of my own in a little loft I made by converting an old out house. Thus "HalfMoon Loft". Tom has been gone some ten years now. Together, his birds and mine, I fly under the name of BlueMoon now. I didn't get the bug till I was in my late 30's and it eased me right through the empty nest syndrome when my kids left home.
T_T Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 My father and his four brothers kept them, me and my four brothers keep them and one nephew keeps them, competition or what ? My first own pigeons, I saw flying at dusk, I was fifteen at the time and saw these 3 pigeons land on the roof at the side of a house directly above a drain pipe. At nightfall, I climbed the drain pipe and netted all three but as I was dragging the net over the guttering, one escaped which left me with a German Bl C and a Belgium Grizze H. I paired these together and the very first race I flew with a young Bl W Ft hen from them, not only won the club but topped the Fed. I have been hooked ever since.
westburylofts Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 I was 17 when i started keeping the birds, this was down to my mates dad who raced them, i found myself going round too watch the birds more than to see my mate, I talked my dad into letting me have a 8x6 section of his 30x6 workshop lol two years later me and my dad turned all his workshop into a loft. the thing i found more strange was that when my dad met my mates dad they knew each other from school, they lived 100 meters away from each other for the last ten years and did not know it, also it turns out it was my grandad that started my mates dad off with the birds as well, it was the first i had known that my grandad raced pigeons before. was out of the sport for 10 - 12 years before meeting teresa and guess what. her grandad, uncles, all raced pigeons , HEAVEN OR WHAT she is also well into pigeons and if it was not for her help i would not be able too race them. THANKS BABE I LOVE YOU, Where is my tea lol RAY
