retired Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 By God, as somebody not racing yet, just in the process of setting up a small loft (converting a shed on the cheap), and looking forward to the good nature of his club sorting him out with birds, these numbers are pretty bloody scary. We don't have much (if any) in terms of spare money and if this is what I'll have to pay out I won't be in the sport for long. Dont let it put you off, My figures are prob inflated slighlty to budget for feeding a bag of corn a week as well as obviously sending 18 obs and 30 ybs to all club racing - Which we have already concluded is overpriced compared to others. As well as that my club fees are for approx 5 clubs including 2 x classic clubs - There is no reason to be in them - I only send in one of the 5 clubs but reluctant to give up membership of the others. Pigeons can maybe be as expensive or near enough as cheap as you want them to be - If you (as i do) only have limited spare finances set a budget and stick to it as best you can - Plus if you budget what you would spend racing each week all year round you can build a nice little kitty up over the winter months.
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 I raise a lot of birds and I have a lot of birds I average 400 or so in my care most of the time I am spending around 5000 dollars a year between club dues , feed, training and other things you could do it for a lot less !!

tango_kid Posted July 6, 2009 Author Report Posted July 6, 2009 Thats a lot of money as a set up!!And i kniw 'you can do it as cheap as you like' but realisticaly your still going to have to pay club costs, pigeon entry and corn. Even if you get birds and a loft for free which is unlikely. Mabye a little synical? Mike
