Thats a lot of money as a set up!!And i kniw 'you can do it as cheap as you like' but realisticaly your still going to have to pay club costs, pigeon entry and corn. Even if you get birds and a loft for free which is unlikely.

Mabye a little synical?

Mike

How is it unlikely you wont get a top of the range loft for free but you will get an old shed for free as there advertised all the time in trade papers  free as long as new owner can dismantle and uplift and they can be adapted in to a loft very easily and if you join a pigeon club there will be embers only too willing to give you free birds some wont but most will i had to get extra rings this year as fellow members where breeding me birds faster than i could get the rings and they are not just offloading there rubbish on to me all good birds  especially my 2 whites bred by the top flyer in our club at the moment

i think you can get the cost of corn down by adding to a general mix which may cost £10 a bag

but by adding barley, wheat , pellets these should only be £5-£6 a bag so about £7  a bag of corn

most supplements are not all that , and cheap ones like mollasses ,yeast etc can be used

my first year cost me

200 for loft(got cheap chipboards and built my own)

not sure on club fee's but say 150 quid i only have small team of birds so after the first year fee's went down that includes club fed and paying for racing.

150 quid for corn over the year again small team

i used club clock till i bought my own for 130 quid from ebay.

that was three year ago

its about the same now but i race old birds and young birds so about 500 a year give or take a few quid .

If your in it to make money forget it find another hobby some people do make money from the birds but not many.

birds origianally came from friends and family and 10 from louella.

Its best not to pump birds full of chemicals but from time to time you might need to medicate and the only time iv used a vet is to get my dog put down i certainly would not take a pigeon to a vets  if the basic medications on the market cant cure them then  its the end of the road for them

Each club is approx £50-£60 per season, and as said previously most of birdage goes to Federation. - I dont really want to comment on the Fed secretary as if something doesnt toe the line it seems to end up in front of the President.
