Here's one that will get you thinking:

How much would it cost to enjoy one year of competative pigeon racing?

So basic prices of loft, feed, pigeons, health care and all other such expenses (club joining ect).

This is assuming that nobody gives you ANYTHING for free.

Also, how would you go about it... old birds/young birds/both, widowhood/natural system ect ect ect.

Waiting in much antisipation,

it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want the only set price would be your fees to join the club and stay in it

£500 loft, £520 corn, 20 birds @ £25 £500, Club fees £300, Training £500 est, clock/ets £250, etc etc etc £250

can get a loft for nothing can get birds of fellow club mates for nothing club fees 80 odd pound training £5 a toss  can pick up a clock for £20 or someone in club will give you a lend for a season food well depends  what you want to feed them to do it all proper it takes alot of money

why are your club fees so dear?

WOW! Thanx for the replys guy much appreciated. And that is one hell of alot of money hehe, hen again i supose if you are in fukl time work and it's your major hobbie then i suppose its worth it.

you dont have to be in full time work just go in to a parntership as long as there working  ;D

The original post said nothing for free!

Club fee's include, club, fed, combine membership, sec fee's, weekly birdage, pools etc.

 

There are far more fanciers that don't work full time than do i beleive!

well i dont know where they get their money from then :P

 

most the fanciers are retired got good pensions behind them

I have got so far

 

Club membership Fees = £200

Corn = £600

Medication/ products = £150

Entry fees Old birds - Based on 18 birds per week = £201.80 (80p per bird) not including National racing

Entry fees Young birds based on 30 birds per week = £168  (80p per bird) not including National racing

YB rings = £10.50

Training = £400

 

Total annual figures estimated = £1332.30

 

One of purchases

 

Clock - T3 (ebay) = £100

Loft = £600

Fittings = £150 (Self built)

Drinkers/pots etc - £40

 

Grand total = £2222.30

 

Obviously just estimates as sure they cost alot more than that.

By God, as somebody not racing yet, just in the process of setting up a small loft (converting a shed on the cheap), and looking forward to the good nature of his club  sorting him out with birds, these numbers are pretty bloody scary.  We don't have much (if any) in terms of spare money and if this is what I'll have to pay out I won't be in the sport for long.

;D32p in our club but my partner pays that so its not a problem
