Guest JonesyBhoy Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Was just having a read at a SNFC book and came across a bit about Scottish fanciers sending to the 1914 NFC Bordeaux race.. And it says a young lad by the name of Alex Christie, who had won the previous years SNFC Rennes, timed on the 2nd day flying 793 miles be 19th Open NFC.. vel 739.. I looked in Squills and the race was won by a H T. Stratton in Bournemouth... 100s of miles South of Christe's loft.. What an awesome perfromance..!! Makes you wonder what he would have fed his doo on, what means he would have had to train it and how he would have motivated it to fly so well...?????? Says Dr Anderson bought all his doos when he went off to war in 1914.. and when he was lucky enough to return in 1918 the Dr. gifted him them back.. And the Dr. famous 'Stanhope Hen' was a g.daughter of the 'Bordeaux Cock'.. SNFC history is just magic..!!!!!

Delboy Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Very true Alan, way back then, they were testing their pigeons . Bring back that mentality and we would have a better sport. Whats up nowadays is more people are into sprint and middle distance races. When I started in pigeons, 1973, everybody went to the Gold Cup race from France. That was everybody's ultimate goal , to score in this race. Now, you have folk bragging about getting a ticket at 300 mls :-/ If their was a 1000 mile race on the SNFC calendar , then we would be back to being undoubtedly the best organisation in Britain
