Wiley Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 don't blind treat, only treat if you know theyve got it,some preventatives are okay aslong as they are natural,if ur going to use non natural preventives(antibiotics) do not use them to often as it breaks down imune system
Tony C Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 The trick is not to medicate unless you have a problem.
Guest anthony Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 A friend of mine keeps pigeons just to have something to do never raced not even trained, all his birds are in imaculate condition never treated against nothing!! Mine I use to treate for everything, never had birds as healty as his.Than it hit me the only difference between us is I put mine in the basket at the clubhouse with others,he never did.So I tought if I start the season with healty pigeons and moniter only those that race,do I have to medicate the whole flok??answere NO.So far so good

Guest Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Immunity?could be but never put to test!!! Your post suggests that pigeons only 'fall ill' during 3 months of the year when they are racing and are perfectly healthy the other 9 months when they are not. I would suggest that the birds immunity is life-long, not just for 3 months. Remember that medication does what the immune system should be doing in the first place. Make sure what you give the birds works with the immune system, and not simply propping the bird up.
Guest anthony Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 We start our racing season on November, keep racing till June. That is 8 months.I do not treat the other 4 months(no need to)I realy hate using medication, keep monitering the ones that i race and take some precaution not to let them spread any ailments when they are back. But like it or not sometimes i have to treat.
steven booth Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Thes a lot of medication on the market for diseases etc but ive heard the Chevita products are pretty good
