First check the active ingredient of the product that you are using now and the one you intend to switch over to, if the active ingredient is the same class, then you aren't switching, you're using the same one under a different Brand Name.

 

I would also check the label for the dose; if it says X for Y days, then you must do that. Underdosing will almost certainly leave live organisms, these will develop immunity to the treatment you've just used, reproduce back to previous levels and form a colony resistant to all treatments in the same class. I've seen opinions that these treatments underdose anyway; and have given rise to the present resistant susperstrains.
