obvious its serious when bird is emaciated and it dies

older fanciers might rember using daz ( blue washing powder ) and adding dropping and water and shaking in a glass bottle as you could detect the worms , however regular screening and good management will help keep on top of this , if birds forage on soil / grass they will pick up worms other contamination will be via the race basket  ;)

Cheers Oldyellow, what would you class as serious, i was told just 1 is 1 too many, DAZ

1 worm is one to many, worms take valuable nutrition from the birds and hair worm can cause serious internal damage to the bird. The life cycle of a worm is just 24 days so that one quickly becomes lots, thats why they need to be treated if present. the problem with worms come more in the racing season, everytime you put birds in the basket with other peoples birds, thats where the cross contamination takes place. regular testing with the microscope is the best way to keep them under control.
