V1JSL Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Any info / advice would be appreciated. My young birds from last year have wet droppings, it seamed to effect the birds after i moved 4 late breds through to the same section ( those latebreds had been flying out) the loft floor is saturated and the birds are drinking a lot of water. I removed the latebreds, all others look fine apart from the wet droppings, any advice is appreciated. ps i also recently changed my feeding to depurative thanks in advance
snowy Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 i would start with removing all the birds, & give loft a 100% clean & disinfectent & make sure its 100% dry, & give plenty of garlic water.
jimmy white Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 agree with snowy but would tend to get the birds tsted for paramyxo, or salmonella. off course it could be something else, but i would consult a vet
Peckedhen Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 A bit OT but, is it usual for moved birds to have wet droppings - I've noticed this every time I get new birds - wet and a brightish green colour. It lasts a couple of days or so then they seem to clear up. Am I doing something wrong? :-/
snowy Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 ive had the odd pigeon with wet dark green dropings in the past, & seems to clear up quickish with a bit of garlic water, like to give them this about 3 times a week.
Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Tend to agree with the other posts; birds newly shifted tend to be a bit skittish and droppings loose for a day or two. That plus the fact that you've put them on depurative which in itself will give you less than perfect much softer droppings. If the weather has turned colder at the same time, then combined stress maybe too much. I'd suggest feed grain rather than seed, you could change back and see if they form up again... expect so within 24 hours.
ch pied Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 hi vijsl tend to agree with bruno .....but the high water in take????

Chatrace Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 a day or 2 of Apple cider vinegar in the water should also firm up a newly moved bird or even one with just loose droppings. 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water.
schouwman71 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 id try this 3 heaped tablespoons of glauber salts and 1 tea spoon of bicarbonated soda, add it to 2 pints of warm water and put it in a drinker fo 2-3 hrs make sure your birds are firsty.after a few hrs throw it away and then feed your birds just a little and you should see the dropping on your birds return to normal,if they dont then they are ailing somethink.Good luck
jimmy white Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 i understand the moving of birds can produce loose droppings, but i think vijsl was saying his whole team of ybs had wattery droppings after he had put the 4 latebreds in, thats why i advised a vet [could be many things, some not so serious but at the same time could be serious ] would be safer to find out [ had the birds ,been vaccinated?]
V1JSL Posted January 10, 2006 Author Report Posted January 10, 2006 Thanks for the help and info, it's all appreciated
T_T Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 V1JSL. Without doubt the best cure for watery droppings I know of is:- 1 teaspoon of CINNAMON to half a pint of hot water. Leave overnight then mix with 3 pints cold water and leave before the birds for 24hrs. BINGO!!! If they are drinking and passing excessive water after/when drinking, there is no doubt in my mind that it would be Coccidiosis. A fellow club mate asked me to pay him a visit two years ago to see his pigeons that had the systems I've explained. Coccidiosis was the cause. Of course we all know stress, loft change, food change etc can all lead to wet droppings. Wish you luck.
