sammy Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 take a pin and just burst it but dip the pin or needle in tcp or its like burst it at the top of the crop and squeeze the air out
Guest j.bamling Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 i know a bloke who did that and killed the pigeon !!!
sammy Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 no i am not bursting it i know a bloke who did that and killed the pigeon !!! suit yourself then
Guest j.bamling Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 do you think it would be ok ? if i burst it do how long before it goes back to normal ?
stantheman Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 some years ago i had the same problem and took the pigeon to our vet and was lucky to be seen by a south african who specialised in birds he showed me what to do. basically use a needle that is hollow ie one that you use for vaccinating make sure its sterilised then gently insert the needle under the skin and you will hear the air escaping just be careful and dont insert the needle to deep you may have to repeat the process a couple of days later dont use a normal needle as once you remove it the air cant escape it worked a treat for me and since then have done the process for a mate of mine with no problems
Guest j.bamling Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 great how long before it goes back to normal ? what would happen if i leave the air in will it blow up ;D

sammy Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Thanks lads i am going to try it !!! i will let you all know how it goes ?BANG ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 What sammy said does work as this is exactly how i have done it
Guest Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I agree tha Sammy had the right idea. But what was wrong, imho, was the reference to 'bursting' something. The burst 'something' was already burst - an air sac and what was needed now was to release air trapped under the skin. I think we were also fortunate that stantheman had witnessed a vet do the procedure, cos I know if I was faced with it tomorrow, I might have a half a chance of getting it right. Big difference in hypo 'just under the skin' and sticking a needle into something vital and 'offing' the bird. Well done all ... we've graduated into surgery. Now where's me goonie & rubber gloves ? ;D
sammy Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 if any one has the david harper tapes its on them
jimmy white Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 take a pin and just burst it but dip the pin or needle in tcp or its like burst it at the top of the crop and squeeze the air out done this quite successfull myself on a few occasions ,,to other folks birds ;D ;D sometimes needed to do twice ,, bird perfect next day
Guest Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 some years ago i had the same problem and took the pigeon to our vet and was lucky to be seen by a south african who specialised in birds he showed me what to do. basically use a needle that is hollow ie one that you use for vaccinating make sure its sterilised then gently insert the needle under the skin and you will hear the air escaping just be careful and dont insert the needle to deep you may have to repeat the process a couple of days later dont use a normal needle as once you remove it the air cant escape it worked a treat for me and since then have done the process for a mate of mine with no problems ;D i have done this procedure a few times now , if the entry of syringe into skin (no deeper ) doesnt solve you may have to drag ever so slightly the syringe to create a small tear in the skin ,at same time massaging blown up area of flesh ,should see an immediate result , release bird to fly back to perch or box its movement aids air to escape . keep bird in for few days all should be well .if need to repeat ,dont choose same spot on bird ,should be no need to disinfect bird if its generally in good health . if possible read "OLD HANDS" diseases and ailments book and look for info on "BALLOON THROAT" . best of luck ;D andy
