sue Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Has anyone got any ideas as to why our young birds wont fly. They appear to be perfectly healthy but when they go out they fly high for about five minutes then they come down and land. Most of these birds were hatched in march so should be flying well by now.
sue Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 about an ounce and a half split into two feeds and when they land on the roof they wont come in. had been feedin just breed and wean but thought it was too heavy so give them a lighter mix now.

pjc Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 I would add some barley to lighten the food even more until they are flying well. Give a very light feed in the morning and then main feed after excercise. Do I recall you were using a whistle? If so are you blowing the whistle every time you feed the birds for assosiation. Also try and break the habbit of sitting on the roof. Phil
WulDon Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 ye it would appear you are overfeeding to heavily get them on a light mix (eg Gerry Plus) and cut them down to an ounce each after excercise once they start flying to your satisfaction then increase the food ever so slighty till you find the perfect balance, young birds need to be controlled and the easiest way is through there stomach!
