Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hi Guys, Can someone please advise me. My stock birds droppings have gone all blackish and slimey and they dont smell very well. Could it be salmonella? Thank you David
andrecrock Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hi there D Wat are you feeding? And are your birds stil moulting?I had the same prop about 2weeks ago.I gave them a hell of a dose garlic for about 3 days,80% barley and now they are fine. andrecrock...
Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hi, I am feeding a resting mix (barley with some peas and maize). They have all fully moulted now.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 have they had black minerals or access to mud ? either way hard to dianose muddy dropping , but if dark green slimey i usualy give live yoghurt , a throat swab may be needed if you suspect there going down with something http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/symptoms/index.php
Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Thanks Oldyellow. I got a panic when I went into the loft. The floor is covered in these droppings.
Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Sorry, no access to black minerals yet and no mud. I dont let my stock birds out.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 try some yoghurt and brewers yeast on feed with a bit of fruit juice preferably lemon or orange leave for an hour to dry then feed , the yoghurt should return them to normal if not ailing
Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 I am guessing its natural yoghurt. Will try them on it. Was just hoping its not something serious. Thanks very much. David
Okitsme Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hi Tony, No mate, they are still eating their portion of feed. They dont look sick or anything. The thing is I paired up on the 1st of Dec so I am also hoping it might just be stressed from being locked in the nestboxes.
Guest kev d Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 hi mate when, and if my birds droppings go a bit soft i give them red stone grit and one heaped tea spoon of bicabinate of soda in there drinker with in 48 hrs there back to normal . it works every time . cheers kev d

I'd go with that Wiley - could be an number of thingsm better to be safe than sorry than just blind treating for something that may not be there in the first place............
