kraftykev Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 The dad of a young boy who keeps garden fantails came to see me today about one of his sons white birds. He stated that the bird was loosing balance and kept flapping about on the floor scaring the other birds. I took a walk up to his house but when we got there all the birds seemed ok and as they all look the same he didnt know which one was ill. I phoned him tonight and he said they all seemed ok. What do the members on here think was wrong with the bird as ive not come across it before. Cheers Kev

Guest 67ghirl Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Could it possibly be just a youngster running about and 'testing' it's wings? :-/

Cheers Kev If it is a hen that has been feeding big youngsters, and is not far short of laying again, it could be a calcium deficiency, especially if it hasn't had regular access to fresh grit.

Good answer Hepste! Would also give some Brewers Yeast in case it is a Thiamine shortage.
Peckedhen Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Concussion - might have flown into a window?? :-/

Good call. People tend not to give garden fantails grit, they pick around the ground and find it but I bet it doesn't have any calcium in it!
Guest Freebird Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 If this bird is off tumbler stock then it is just excercising and showing signs of tumbling. Bird needs out? How old are they and do they get out to excersize.
