Guest numpty01 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 first thing you need to know are they eating drinking some youngsters go backwards then pick up again and have you wormed them
kadet123 Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 hi numpty01 , 1 yb had a crop full of water but not the other but both seem to be eating
pjc Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 as these yb's are only 2 weeks old were they weaned into a section with older young birds?
kadet123 Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 yes mate but never paired my birds up until end of febuary
pjc Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 The older youngbirds will have built up imunity and there is an underlying problem in your youngbird section. When you put youngerbirds into a section with older youngbirds the squeakers won't have a lot of imunity and will catch anything the others may be carrying. Isolate the problem birds and allow them to recover but get the others tested so they can be treated correctly.
flyingteessider Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 are your birds been sick with a crackling noise and cough greasy wattles and very week ive found when you have many pigeons they are like humans and in a room of 35 humans some one will always have a comon cold pigeons alike this was my young bird sickness you can tell if its serious almost imediatley dont panic yet

just ask me Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 i will do mate i think it will be the best thing rather than treating blind i think it would be best if your not 100% sure what the problem is

pjc Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 :-/When picking out my future stock birds i have to place all my young birds in the same loft all through the year iv never had any problems, good sound stock.Healthy sound stock breed sound young birds totaly agree, but if the youngbirds appear to be ok but are carrying something as they have built up imunity then and new additions are likely to catch it and go down hill. Yes if the stock and youngbirds are 100% there should be no problem but how many would know they are 100% if they don't show any symptems?

Guest strapper Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 hi have 2 ybs i noticed tonight were hunched up and lost weight so i have segregated them into widowhood boxes, what is the best way to deal with ybs with yb sickness. ps they were weaned about 2 weeks ago thank you hope this helps a little ...this shows symptoms ect http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/treatment-plan/specificinfections-ybs.php also this one http://www.pigeonnetwork.com/vetdirectory/vetusa/DrDavidMarx/fluidcrop.cfm
Guest IB Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 I don't think its anything to do with sickness at all. If these youngsters have been put into a section that houses older youngsters that have been fending for themselves for some weeks say, then the younger ones won't get a look-in at the feeder, food will be all gone by the time they are ready to pick up their second pea. And they could also be getting bullied. Put them somewhere on their own for at least 10 days until they're eating & drinking competently, then let them run with the older youngsters.
kadet123 Posted June 6, 2009 Author Report Posted June 6, 2009 thanks for that strapper, very intresting reading, ive isolated the 2 ybs into widowhood boxes , the rest of the team look good but for one which is suspect but i just weaned it into loft last week, corn is down at the moment for half hour so younger birds get to eat, just contemplating flock treating with baytril just incase but am i going down a no no road
