Guest pigeon82 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 these droppings would be dry (and not wet) to form an imunity, imunity doesnt really stop the bird having a disease..it only helps to protect it from catching one so easily...a sort of firewall. i know what ur sayig yes its right but the droppings would of started off wet
Thimbles Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I dont agree with pigeons being kept in a sterile enviroment either but poor hygene leads to disease
Guest southern and mason Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Its sound advice i have given her as theres alot of diseases in the droppings and she will never sort them out keeping them in a mess like that my m8 only cleans out once a year the sh*t is nealy hitin the top ov the boxes and he was top man in hiz club and was well up in the fed he topped the fed at least once a year untill he stoppd racing so thats a hole load ov sh*t wot u are sayin
Guest IB Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I doubt if the infection is anything to do with 'the state' of the loft. A more likely source is birds recently introduced. If there have been none, then someone may have brought it in from an infected loft, on their shoes, clothes etc. Although the symptoms certainly look like paramyxo, there are various diseases which when they get into the nervous system, would cause the same type of symptoms. You need to have the sick bird checked by a vet. Then you will know for certain what you have, and how to deal with it. And, as others have advised, make sure that this bird is isolated from the rest, and watch out for similar symptoms in the others.

Guest strapper Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 i know what ur sayig yes its right but the droppings would of started off wet the droppings naturally would be wet...but there is a difference...the droppings would come into contact with the dryness of the loft. they would absorb the wetness within a short time . its only when they pile up(through days of leaving them) and remain wet which the fancier would not let happen.
blaz Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 yes get the birds tested .it could also be trichomoniasis (canker) upon examination the bird will usually have yellow cheesy growths in the throat, many stages of severity occur .we see one or two match head size lesions indicating a more resistant bird to one with large cheesy lumps . nearly filling the throat and mouth and hindering eating.
