Keepsmilingqueen Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Hi all, does anyone vaccinate using this ? if so what are the pros/ cons of vaccinating against pox, is it worth it??? ;D thanx Sharron
Guest Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I'd vaccinate against pigeon pox if I knew there was a problem with it in my area. Have picked up isolated BHW reports of it in England. I don't know how prevalent pigeon pox is there, and I have never heard of it in Scotland. The one thing that did appeal to me about the PMV & Pox combo was that it didn't need to be a needle job. I remember reading that it could be administered by pulling a few down feathers and brushing the vaccine into the exposed feather follicles.
john robo Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 for me i just use the pmv because if you jab yourself with it its ok, but the pox 1 you need to go to hospital.
Chatrace Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 for me i just use the pmv because if you jab yourself with it its ok, but the pox 1 you need to go to hospital. If you use the oil base PMV it will also cause you problems if ya jab yourself. Seek Medical attention if you do inject any of it and watch if it was just a jab, if it turns dark it may have to be cut away.
Chatrace Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 (puke) your right it will make you puke if injected
john robo Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 lol dont like the sounds of bits of me being cut away. it was not to bad when i only had 16 birds to do. got quite few more now. am going to get someone you knows what there doing to do this lot (the club sec) . ive got my vaccine in the fridge but if i knew someone other than myself was going to do them, i would have got the 2 in 1.
Chatrace Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 you can do it,just be careful. I don't do the neck shot any longer,I do it in the loose skin between the leg and body ,not as much risk.
Beanz Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 I used it with youngsters last season for the first time, only advantage I think is that if it rears its head you will still be able to race yours, in the early 70's fanciers panicked when this appeared but now they are a bit wiser and know that it does not do your birds any harm, a friend of mine went to a vet in the 70's and the advice he gave him was that if you get a bird with it throw it in with the others, them that get it will have it for 2 weeks max and then they will be immune for life and also some of the children from them will be immune but not all.
