DOVEScot Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 do you think there there are to many myths about tonics and medications that are used for pigeons If you compare a highly trained pigeon to any althelete, they are so fit and healthy and at their peak all the time so that they ward off ailments, but when they are over trained or stressed and they get a bug it totally floors them, thats when they need tonics and medication not when they are free form any ailments :-/
Guest karl adams Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 how can so many meds get on the shelf with no scientific evidence to back them up

Guest karl adams Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 some of the things that are given to pigeons do more harm than good as you can give them at the wrong time and make things worse
Lennut Tar Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 do you think there there are to many myths about tonics and medications that are used for pigeons Yes, Yes & Yes. Look !!!!!!!!! I might get into trouble now ;D ;D ;D. But I have a world renowned "Pigeon Vet", just down the road from me here :) & if you ever want a packet of all the different goodies :P he will sell them to you. You name it, hes got it to sell etc. If ever there was a man as rich as he is, with all his goodies in his cupboard etc who should be a world beater in this sport of ours it's him, & have no fear on that fact. But guess what !!!!!!!! with all his money & the people helping him around his lofts etc "LMFAO" unfortunately !!!!!!!, & sadly in my view he flys like a dog ;D ;D ;D. But you will never stop blokes lining up every week there at his clinic, for his advise & wisdom ???????? & all the secret potions, he has on offer for sale. It's a strange strange world we now live in, as they say. PS, Sadly !!!!!!!!! in his wisdom ????????? "PMSL" he is in the proccess of shifting I believe, further down south ;D ;D ;D "Health reasons" :P one could say :'( :'( & it's got nothing to do with pigeons ??????????????????????????????????????. Enjoy.
Merlin Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 creatine,,, about £30 waste of money ascorbivite,,£15 dear way of buying a lemon ,,[vit c] many tonics [expensive ] contain vit b,,,,,,,, [yeast tabs big bottle cheap as chips] elementals,,[,expensive for ammount in tiny double containers] ,,,,,, a calcium tab and a yeast tab,, cheap in the chemist all garlic potions,, 1 garlic 15 pence colatone for pigeons ,,same as metatone for humans ,,iron tonic,,,,,,again vit b , yeast tabs cheap again ,,,,,,,,,and the list goes on and on are fanciers being done,,,yes , big time Quite right Jim,you could go on and on,the reason being is that most fanciers are gullibile, forever looking for this magic potion to give them the edge, come race day, advertising is sometimes superb,so on and on it goes sadly,in all walks of life.
Novice Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I totally agree we are being conned big time. Additionally fanciers are often feeding more than one supplement. They can all be doing the same job. We are like football clubs. In an effort to be top they pay higher transfer fees and wages. Eventually the supporter pays. Really healthy pigeons need little more than the essentials.
jimmy white Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 i knew a fancier that bought colatone, gave it to his birds that week,, won the race ,,,,,went back to the supplier nearly bought him out of the stuff, ;D,,,,,,,,,,,,but sadly, never won another race its like a tipster ,sending out tips for horses , if theres 12 horses running,, he gives everyone a tip for every horse , [on a big scale] say the winner was 20 to 1 ,,,,,,,,,all the folk who got that horse would think the tipster was fantastic, and send a fortune for more tips????
