Silverdale Lofts Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 How many fanciers treat before pairing up or before racing.
MsPigeon Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 I use 5in1 by Vita King and spray for lice before breeding and racing seasons. Yours in the Sport. Carol
Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Ms Pigeon What is in 5in1 by Vita King? and how often do you spary the lice?
carl Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 114 views to this topic and only 2 replys ?. i treat for canker cocci and worms before paring and before racing starts, when racing starts i will visit my vet every month to have the birds checked,if they have something then they will be treat.
MsPigeon Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Carl, On your monthly vet visit durring the race season do you just take in dropping samples from the loft in general or from specific suspecious droppings or take birds in or what?
jimmy white Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 if your taking droppings to be tested ,take them at differant times of the day and from differant parts of the loft, i dont treat for anything now, unless i have to, ; but lie very handy to agricultural vet for droppings test.[ ;D ;D pigeons droppings, off course ;D ;D ;D]
carl Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Carl, On your monthly vet visit durring the race season do you just take in dropping samples from the loft in general or from specific suspecious droppings or take birds in or what? I will take a few droppings from each loft and also a bird from each loft,if any droppings look suspect i will take them and the bird from the suspects pen. In the 2 seasons i have flown the birds have had a slight case of worms thats it.
Guest Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 I treat for worms a month B4 pairing, then canker when they are sat their eggs, as I feel the cocks put the hens under a lot of stress when driving them to nest. Then a month B4 the season I treat for worms again, as I let them peck about in the garden while they are paired up. Then they will be treated for canker during the season if I think they need it. Ive never treated for Respitory, but I have got something in this year and Im in 2 minds wether to treat for it, but hopefully if all my ventilation alterations work they wont need it!
Guest shadow Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Have birds tested do not treat unless I have to have had clear test for four years running.
southbankhs Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 we treat for worms and canker4 weeks before coupling birds and treat again for canker when all pairings have been sitting for approx 5 days we use rondizole 10% for 5 days for worms we use a panacur then when youngsters are weaned and hens removed after about 3-5days we will have droppings tested and we will then treat accordingly.
Guest Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 you want to compete at the highest level the birds have to be 100% healthy, and i beluive canker kick starts all the other problems. and also if birds have lice 9 time sout of 10 they will have worms
peterpau Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 I treat for worms every four to six weeks cancker every four weeks and cocci every four dip for lice twice a year alter treatments on a regular bassis never treat respiratory dusty bin being the cure if serious in the closed season if there is one don't treat
Guest cloudview Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 mine get nowt as long as the droppings look good and thebirds are happy ie not moping about i leave well alone the reason being that i want natural imnunity to build up idon;t want propped up birds that need some sort of medication every time they come back from a race im only interested in distance racing and i beleive only birds with a strong immune system will survive in this type of racing themore tretment they get the more they want sprinting thats another matter
Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 i beluive canker kick starts all the other problems. Edited post to show bit I've picked up on, Gez. I think that you will find that it is the other way round ... rise in canker and cocci counts are early warning signs that something else could be at work ... the immune system has switched attention to that something else. Trick is not to be fooled by trich and to deal with the true problem and not the side-show.
Guest Silverwings Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 good post cloudview, natural immunity and also an immunity common through the whole loft is essential ,bearing in mind some of the specimens that are put into race panniers, carry a goverment health warning ,it allways pays to have the odd antidote at the ready .....ray
Mike Lycett Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Cocci canker worm prior to pairing Canker mid season when racing Nothing else is necessary at our loft
pigeonjock Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 WHY TREAT FOR WORMS MIKE IF THEY ARENT THERE??????
Mike Lycett Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Bizarrely enough I've seen enough to suggest that treating for worms acts almost as a form booster - especially when using the best stuff on the market for the job
MsPigeon Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 especially when using the best stuff on the market for the job What would that be Mike?? :-/
Mike Lycett Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 For worming? Easy one - best on the market is MOXIDECTIN 5 ml per litre of water. Leave them to that water for 24 hrs. Saves handling each & every pigeon like you do with Panacur etc.. Also, you should see how they race the week after ! I know of 5 x 1st National/Classic winners in 2005 that were on Moxidectin the week before their big win. Don't tell anyone I told you that though - otherwise they'll go APE ;D ;D
Rentenier Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 I treat 6weeks before training with Tylan,Emtryl,Terra vit,+Sulfa16 and do this once per month during racing season.
