Agree Jimmy, but the lads question was requesting a cure. Once he has treated and cleared the issue, then he can work on keeping the problem at bay with the preventative actions.

I thought pigeons could not digest milk, or is it just certain parts of the milk that they cannot digest :-/

Nystan works wonders on Young Bird Sickness.

I agree with Davey as soon as any signs of it appear i.e. vomitting corn and waterly droppings remove food. Nystan in the water for 24 hours then feed with a light mix such as gerry plus that is easy to digest.

The purpose of this is:-

1. To remove all corn from birds crop through digestion or vomitting

2. To kill bad bacteria/fungal infection in the crop with the Nystan

Then what we need to do is restore good bacteria to the birds crop by using a probitic some people flavour natural yoghurt. Aviform also do a really good product called prolyte that a lot of top men use. Personally I prefer gemphanax.

If the birds are still having waterly droppings give a course of antibionics such as amoxicillin. The purpose of this is to deal with any secondary infection such as e-coli that is also attacking the birds.

Then build the bird back up using the light corn and plenty of gemphanx after the treatment.

I suspected mine had yb sickness and dealt with it using the above method and a weeks rest and had them training again by the middle of the next week and have won the first race.

Personally I suspect that a lot of the reason the birds get YB sickness is also due to people not feeding their YB's sufficent food to harden them up. People race them to the corn tin and forget that they are basically children and if they are training hard they should have as much as they can eat. If you feed them twice a day you still have control without straving them.

Also a lot of pigeon men do the appalling trick of sending birds that aren't in condition to race. Your birds can pick up infectitions easily from the race pannier. I put some birds through last friday that were jumping with lice as a result I have checked each bird of mine on sunday to check they haven't got any and sprayed as a precaution. Lice on pigeons is my pet hate, it happens to us all at some time or another but with the availabilty of products such as one drop etc theres no excuse for the persisitent offenders who consistly basket birds that are crawling with them.

If your a pigeon in the loft on thursday night before basketing and are itching and stamping your feet all night with lice then you aren't going to race your best compared to a bird thats rested.

Too many people blame their pigeons and don't look to themselves a simple thing like lice is easy sorted out but because its not fatal theres too many people who don't bother spraying their birds. Does my head in.
