I'll second that Tony C, never heard so much ---- in the time I have been on here, eight recent National winners in our club, we all get a touch of it, year after year, no one's had the full blown sickness since 1997 though, now we seem to get young birds holding the corn for 24 hrs, still buggers a week up though.

YBS means different things to different fanciers, symptoms and degree of illness vary from 'off-colour' to dying in numbers with autopsy showing lots of different diseases attacking the bird at the same time, with 'a' virus as root cause..

There is a suggestion that that virus goes dormant, is passed on parent / young, flares up again in young when put under stress (training/racing etc)

May explain why some get it every year, circovirus is equivalent of human AIDS virus, so you are basically breeding generations of immune-deficient pigeons. Only one cure for that.

so if i was to buy birds that had infection they could then hand it down to their offspring if its dormant in them dispite anything i treat them with so the same applys if i bought birds in from deseased loft even if cheap i just go round in circles year in year out without realiseing the problem

why would anyone want to make that up  you numpty some of the best lofts in the country are affected bye this WHAT A STATEMENT TO MAKE.

so come on then what is it?what medications do you get of vet specifically for ybs? all birds can get sick so is there a disease known as old bird sickness? is it not a fact all birds can get sick and most of it down to bad management eliinate the sick ones theres a sure cure for it i not saying no ones birds get sick but anyone with anything wrong with a young one is oh its ybs a load of nonsense if your on top of your game you might not have as any sick birds

Glad i dont fly in your club m8 as i would never get my birds away as i always feed mine before they go,

nobody got the right to stop birds go through just cos they got some feed in them.

stb,,youve picked me up wrong mate, when i say feed i meen packed out with feed, ie cant get another grain in, this is what i should have said, ive put birds through on a friday mate like this and you can see them throwing up with the outcome others eat it then starts your troubles plus these same members are the ones holding up the sheet nearly every week, they just need to use a bit of common sense, red hot weather and this way of feeding is a recipe for problems, maybe ok for oldbirds but not for young.

for the life of me i cant understand this me self how and why so many lofts come down with this disease it does not come out of fresh air people there is a reason for it i done a test this year for me self i maybe shoudn have because of the extra work i vaccinated my birds for salmonella and paratyphoid which i strongly reconmend i left 25 undone in a sepperate section my god the results were there in my face after 6 weeks the ones un done were a lot more hard work keeping right but in saying that 1 pigeeon went funny holding food the usual sighns to make thing worse me breeders buyers bird twice iv brought him back and now he is fine. my vaccinated birds could be left in a pig sty for a week and walk out normal and healty .young bird sickness is an aggressive bactirea folks and your only man is baytril 10% 1.5ml to 2 liters of warter or 2.5% baytril can be giving 2 or 3 drops down the throat which is more affective twice a day there is about 8 different strains of sickness for young birds the killer one is wen they start falling off the perch with in 2 days loft management is crucial .

If a member sends a panier full and want them on there own we let them!

If fanciers allowed the birds to build a good natural immunity then there would be far far less YBS, its caused by lowering immunity through over use of chemicals! IMO

got to disagree with you there mate, my young birds hadnt been treated for nothing, flying for up to 2 hours at times, training up great beating me back every time but then comes the very hot weather of last week, and it happens every year, what do we do, we keep training them then 3 or 4 days later the sickness starts, i said to my mate wait and see by the end of the week people will start to get problems training in this weather but they have to be trained up with only 2 weeks to go till the first race, so we cant win.

sorry mate your wrong hot wheather has not one thing to do with young bird sickness not 1 thing the man behind them has a lot to anwser for mate it a aggressive bactirea and that is not picked up in hot wheather or airborne it starts in your loft or around it strays are a killer wild birds doves starlings crows magpies all carry salmonella and other virus strains all it takes is one infected dropping young birds pick at it around the garden and bobs your unclce outbreak few days later vaccinated birds are amust specially when the racing starts there protected your choice not to but if you like your birds do the right thing for them.

so everyone training last week in hot weather must have had wild bird droppings dropping through the baskets  :K) wild birds are there all the time mate, plus i have witnessed birds getting vaccinated only to see sickness start days later, think it has to do with stress but you will prove me wrong no doubt.

hang on here no not all the time to do with wild birds not at all mate not at all the man behind the birds is a lot to do with it so the lads in australia must not stand a chance then ye donkey hot wheather what bull sh** and to say you seeing young birds die after being vaccinated for salmonella ant paratyhoid i will call you a lier here and now and if they did its because of the man behind them again the is a 10 day course befor they are vaccinated when thats done 5 days later there vaccinated loft managment in other words you.

swallow up anything thats spewed up in basket. beter no to have them hungry when going

then less chance of them eating spew in baskets.

if i had done as you sugested (eliinate the sick ones) then there would have been times when i wouldnt have won 8 out of 10 and 7 out of 9 y/bird races as these years i had y.b.s before racing began.

I used to get it every year without fail, and you can stick the comments about bad management where the sun dont shine, because my pigeons get looked after better then my wife. :)

I have not had it for about 3 years now as i give them natural products that keeps it away.

yes on top of there game pumping there birds full off all sorts of chemicals reducing there immunity thats how smart they are

i very much dout that but hey if they are there birds must be loving all the drugs and chemicals  as they look great and fly great,  how would you know what people give there birds anyway  ( OH THAT REMINDS ME YOUR THE GRASS)

correct thats why no one knows what it is its simply down to bad management

it cant all be down to bad management. i expect some of the problem is all the pills and potions you stuff down the birds  throat look at page 84 and 85 of the homing world this week.

and as far as australia goes with weather, were lucky to see  3 weeks hot weather in england so the birds are not used to it mate so dont you start calling names, no need for that, everyones got different opinions thats why its a forum.
