ryesway Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 hi folks i no this has been done to death before but here goes anyway , right my question is floor coverings for the loft Ive used hemp core , easy bed , find it goes every were its not supposed to go and gets dusty so Ive ruled that out , Ive been using sand and scrapping out every day then sieving it through and find that gets dusty to after a few days , so I'm thinking well if I'm scrapping out with sand then i might as well leave the sand out , but i do think the sand keeps the floor dryer, so wot do all you use right through the year as we do get alot of rain in winter and what ever you put down gets paddled all over place its just I'm obsessed with dry floors , i do have grills down in part of my loft which i think are great but I'm struggling for height in this part of the loft so what do you all do thanks rye
Guest Freebird Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 One inch layer of kiln dried sand sieved out once a day using dustpan to collect and poured through a sieve. Your right id does get dusty after a while but no matter what you use the dust will still be there. I like the sand as it looks neat and tidy and the birds think they are on holiday, He He!
boxer Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 just a scraper ;) u can see what the droppings are like then
Guest bakes Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 ive used straw got past the joke in the end was more outside the loft than in it so just plywood floor now and like said in previose post i like to see dropping so i can keep an eye on them before i scrap out. all the best
Geraint Parry Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Washed sand (dry) with stalofan. then we use a shovel (bit like a coal shovel) with hole in it - this was made for this job. run it over the floor - cleans section within a minute. Tried the loft dressing etc none been as good.
steve d Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I have always used deep litter in winter however this time decided i was gonna scrape once a day, I lime the lofts every Sunday then clean them every day, 40 feet of lofts take me 15 minutes :)
