phil411 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 most of mine r like that got one cock with wet dropping but he he 09 bird and did well this year raceing .....im going to get him tested ....
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 my birds always tread in it in box perches and floor, even though i scrape daily. Cant really tell how well they are formed in the boxes either through the grills. I do find the occasional unspoiled dropping which looks similar to above. How come your birds dont tread in it? Do you put them a block in to roost on? :-/ Any tips?
dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Please do not turn this tread in to just jokes. I do think you can see how the inside of your birds are by looking at the droppings and i do like to see nice and pink skin. To some its just shxx but to me it tells me a story. a very good flyer up near us keeps very good and healthy pigeons winning out of turn yet he had 1 good cock who won and scored for him but always had very wet droppings he tried all he knew to dry him up finally he managed but lost him the next week any thoughts on why?

DOVEScot Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 not sure why he lost him but trying so many things to try his droppings up can make the bird dehydrate that's what could have happened. That would tie in with the birds we have that drink a lot at times and have loose droppings:-/

dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 not sure why he lost him but trying so many things to try his droppings up can make the bird dehydrate that's what could have happened. get you and strappers point, like you all i like to see dry wll formed droppings but this cocks droppings were wet indicating there was(normally) a problem so why did he perform so well
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 my birds do not drink a lot of water since i stopped using all the supplements even when it has been very hot.
dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 agree with you leighton we tend to use minerals sparingly but use alot of grit u reckon the use of to many supplements cause wet droppings
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 i was told a story about a bird that was called tape worm this pigeon had very wet droppings all the time but it was a big winner when they fix the problem.
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 i have fresh grit minerals and pick stone for the birds every day how come no one makes a song and dance about them ? they cost very little and they take up lots of room. but they are the best thing a bird needs every day.
dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 so what supplements makes them drink more water?
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 i do think bad bugs in the gut is the reason for wet dropping how many have used strike after having bad dropping.
Guest stb- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 so what supplements makes them drink more water? MINE HAVE BLACK MINERALS ALL THE TIME BUT ONLY TAKE VERY LITTLE THAT WAY AND DONT DRINK MORE .. IF YOU DONT GIVE THEM FOR A BIT AND REINTRODUCE THEM THEY GORGE AND DRINK TO MUCH
Guest strapper Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 MINE HAVE BLACK MINERALS ALL THE TIME BUT ONLY TAKE VERY LITTLE THAT WAY AND DONT DRINK MORE .. IF YOU DONT GIVE THEM FOR A BIT AND REINTRODUCE THEM THEY GORGE AND DRINK TO MUCH they drink more after black minerals because of the salt content. how many eat a sandwhich and require a drink to wash it down

IF YOU DONT GIVE THEM FOR A BIT AND REINTRODUCE THEM THEY GORGE AND DRINK TO MUCH that is the only one i do not use as i do think they is just do much salt in it. but if it works for you that's cool.
dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 our droppings are spot on the best they ever been use fresh garlic in water but to answer your questio thought about strike but never used it
Guest stb- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 they drink more after black minerals because of the salt content. how many eat a sandwhich and require a drink to wash it down THEY OBVIOUSLY DRINK SLIGHTLY MORE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM BAD DROPPINGS UNLESS THEY GORGE. HAVE SEEN GUYS FEED IT FOR FIRST TIME AND THE BIRDS GO NUTS AND HAVE THE SQUIRTS FOR A FEW DAYS
Guest stb- Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 BARLEY GIVES THEM LOVELLY DROPPINGS AND PLENTY OF SHED DOWN
dwh Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 BARLEY GIVES THEM LOVELLY DROPPINGS AND PLENTY OF SHED DOWN never had alot with bad droppings we mix barley wheat hp mix annd beans ovr winter
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 THEY OBVIOUSLY DRINK SLIGHTLY MORE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM BAD DROPPINGS UNLESS THEY GORGE. HAVE SEEN GUYS FEED IT FOR FIRST TIME AND THE BIRDS GO NUTS AND HAVE THE SQUIRTS FOR A FEW DAYS i feel sorry for the birds that the bloke you are talking about he was doing them more harm than good i do think you have to look at the pro's and the con's when you give any thing to the birds. a little is good but lots is poison.
Guest strapper Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 THEY OBVIOUSLY DRINK SLIGHTLY MORE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM BAD DROPPINGS UNLESS THEY GORGE. HAVE SEEN GUYS FEED IT FOR FIRST TIME AND THE BIRDS GO NUTS AND HAVE THE SQUIRTS FOR A FEW DAYS when the birds have it for the 1st time to do go nuts for it...this is a sign that they are missing something in their diet, this black mineral is giving them that missing ingredient. have you tried the red minerals too? i found the best black mineral to be the natural(company)one....but i do use different types. my birds get black and red in different pots .
Guest Owen Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 I agree with everything that Leighton has said except for one small detail. If you want to use barley, and I use lots, it should be best quality feed barley. Not malting barley. A lot of birds have bad droppings because the loft is not right. As Leighton says, you need to offset the humidity that you have at this time of the year. A humid loft is very bad for the birds and the droppings will never be right for long. The loft should have plenty of light and air. The stocking rate should be low because overcrowding can cause stress and stress causes wet droppings. Minerals are very important to pigeons as has already been said. I mix my own and feed fresh every day. I do not like the ones that contain a lot of salt, aniseed or small seed because it creates an artificially stimulated appetite for it and that leads to wet droppings. Again I agree with Leighton on the subject of artificial stimulants that are advertised everywhere. If these companies had to rely on me for a profit they would go bust. When I do need to give the birds something extra I put it onto the food. The birds should look really good now and have nice droppings with that bit of down on them. In regards to treatment, there should not be any need unless they have worms of course.
leighton1984 Posted December 22, 2009 Author Report Posted December 22, 2009 I have talk to Owen about all sorts of things to do with pigeons and the thing that comes up is good loft good birds good health if one is missing then you will not be a winner. if any one can get any prices for malted barley (not malting ) can they pm me cheers but must be the very best stuff.
