HAVE USED Y.B. PELLETS NOW FOR YEARS AND FIND THEM VERY GOOD BUT I ONLY USE ONES THAT ARE MADE FOR PIGEONS I CANNOT IMAGINE THAT A MANUFACTURE WOULD PUT ANYTHING IN THEM THAT WASN,T GOOD FOR THE BIRDS BUT WHEN YOU START USING ONES THAT ARE NOT MADE FOR PIGEONS THERE COULD BE ANYTHING IN THEM WHICH MAY HARM THE BIRDS ALLTHOUGH I NOW FANCIERS WHO USE TURKEY AND CHICKEN PELLETS WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT THERE NOT FOR ME.

Speed bird, your informant may be referring to poultry pellets, which at certain times of the year contain antibiotics. Never heard of any feedstuff containing toxins though. Pigeon Man is right, no feed manufacturer would use something that would adversely affect animals eating it. Wouldn't have much popularity if they did!

Came away from the mill yesterday with a handful of poultry pellets.  :)

Since Sir James raised the question about links between modern intensive farming methods and the (dubious) quality of the grains produced for our birds, been doing a bit of snuffling around. Was deeply impressed by the regulations covering what can and cannot be fed to organic poultry. Definitely no sh** in the stuff they are fed, or sh** like pesticides on it. Nothing 'out of a test tube' either - organic minerals, vitamins, grains the lot... definitely 'au naturel'.

So asked yesterday where I could get Organic grain for the birds, and discovered they stocked Organic pellets for poultry, manufactured by a firm in Norfolk (no name or address). Gives a breakdown of what's in it by food group e.g. 18% carbohydrate.

On whether I would use it as a supplement for pigeons is an entirely different matter though. Pigeon stuff for pigeons. You can get pellets for pigeons, but remember that they are supplement only - birds are granivorous - change away from that and you get a crop disease problem (Armand Sheer's video).

But I would like to find out who in the UK does the Organic grains.  ;)

I've always used pellets.  Our breeders have them all the time when rearing babies and I always feed pellets to the race team when they come home from a race (easy to digest when a bird is stressed) This tip was given to me froma guy with degrees in animal nutrition.

I use pellets which are specifically made for pigeons.

I use the Versa Laga PLUS mixes all year, they have the pellets in them, and for pigeons, moulting pellet in t5he moulting mix, and racing pellet in racing mixes, also the breeding, they certainly make ur birds look the part.

i agree with bruno that some pellets can be usefull, and contain fish oils etc , but as doostalker said beware of pellets  i,e. chicken ,turkey, that contain antibiotics, i believe that pigeons should have grain as a staple diet , and if you fancy some pellets as a supplement, ok.but if you feed all pellets all the time, you will make the gizzard redundant,     according to armand scheers,   or was it his brother, garden.??/
