WulDon Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 the birds will tell you what they require... on colder days they will eat more than milder days, each day could differ so bin the scales at this time year... best guide is first half dozen to drink then cease the food.
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Agree need to feed for the day / night temperatures and if my birds are looking for more, they get it ... surprising that difference between a right miserable looking bird and a fairly content one can be literally 3 or 4 more grains.. Other point is your particular winter regime - know some that lock their birds up for winter, whiles others let theirs fly out. Think birds that fly out do need more than those locked up.
Back garden fancier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 In the past I've hopper fed tic beans through winter with no problems. Great if you can't feed in day light
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 As a general rule 1oz a day to mentain weight, but does depend on the weather and amount of excercise. If you feed an economy or even high protein mix then the birds should only build muscle not fat.Generally speaking what is not consumed within 5 minutes of being put down in front of them is not required.

Guest Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Hopper feed beans so ours eat what they want but i do go along with letting them fly out during the winter dont mean by that making them fly they come and go as the please think it keeps up a certain level of fitness with them and makes it much easier to get them fit when it comes to racing spot on there rose ,beans dont put fat on and are much better for feed than some of the crap that is being sold now ,think you will be a good pigeon wumen one day rose ;D ;D ;D ;D
mark Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 the old tic bean sammy is very under estimated feed.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 the old tic bean sammy is very under estimated feed. use plenty of them all year round, young birds are fed on them since weaning untill the racing is finished, and all the birds still get them most of the year in their diet
