The White Rapido Man Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 I have acquired some Karel Herman stock to breed my YB team next year, and have heard from a couple of fanciers that feeding this strain maize sends them hypo.....and difficult to control. .....can anyone either validate or dispell this theory???? ......next year will be my first seasons racing...so unfortunately I am reliant on what info fellow fanciers 'choose' to give me!!!!!! .....the last thing I want though is to be 'sold down the river' cheers
bewted Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 personally i think your being told a tall story!!!
THE PRIEST Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Never herd of maize causing problems with karel hermans. I have been flying karel hermans for about 5 years and i feed them on premier gold . this contains maize and i have won the old bird inland average for 4 out of the last five years in my club mainly with the hermans. They seem quite carm and are not hyper active in any way. Hope this helps... michael
The White Rapido Man Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 ........................thanks for that I did wonder
timbarra Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 maize or yellow corn as its known on the continent, is a good food for pigeons , but i do not feed it as that is my choice only. but best thing to bekieve are your own eyes and leave theory and rumour to others. regards spencer
The White Rapido Man Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 thanks Spencer........................ could I ask why you don't feed maize if you feel it is good for pigeons? ( please dont think I'm trying to be nosey.....I'm just interested in your views...) I am not a novice pigeon fancier..........infact I bred YB teams 2 last years but circumstancers ment I couldn't race... I do talk to many racing men, and extract the info / tips I feel is relevant to me....I agree....there are so many varying differences of opinions it woudl be foolish to take on board them all......and folk will tell you anything...especially if they see you as a potential threat to their success!!!....... Nuitrition for racing is something I am trying to studying at the moment......and I need as much imput as I can get!!!! please note that I dont want this to turn nto a debate.......and want the varying veiws only thanks
The White Rapido Man Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 Our birds get fed 100% maize in the baskets on our interntional races never seemed to do them any harm at all and i never heard of anyone having any problems with them being fed it do you fly Hermans??.........................I am guessing you load prior to race day on this as they are carbs to fuel to long races???? on that basis do you limit the maize intake during your trianing programmes......then bang them 100% to them that extra energy??? I apologise if this thread is evolving from the original question..........
Guest shadow Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 some one has been winding you up kept many strains of pigeons over the years never founf maize to have any adverse effect on any of them, but the only time I would feed it on its own was when building up for channel races.

timbarra Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 HI TWRM, I dont feed maize or yellow corn , simply because my birds throw it all over and seem to prefer smaller grains and I feel its getting wasted , but if you feed little and often I am sure they will eat it. I do not feed maize, peas, beans, or wheat. strange I know but I only feed light mixture and thats what they get all the year, they breed and win on my feed so no need to change.!! if they stop winning maybe I will then look at my ways and methods, I do however feed my birds dog feed, Vitalin flakes.... no kidding or joking ask people who seen my pigeons. they will confirm this. it has maize in it smashed down into a pulp and dried which is just as good.. regards spencer
Castleview Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Maize is full of vitamins, and it's the highest grain in vitamin A. I'll be using it ;D
