Merlin Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 My own system is based on feeding barley at approx 10% the whole year round, with this increased to 75% AFTER the moult, till two weeks before breeding,my way ,I am sure there are many others
timbarra Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I only use Barley to achieveing to get weight off the pigeons, other than that, races horses dont win on hay alone !!! spencer
Merlin Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 With the content of good clean barely at Protein 11.3%,Carbo 69.25%,Water, 14.0%,Fat,2.6%and most important I think Fibre, at 14.4% its on par with Good Corn, but particular benifical for its high fibre content, sure you are correct Rose re Tipplers,it wouldnt do any harm to a 500 milers if fed correctly
schouwman71 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 i know a few top fancierswho race there youngsters on barley andthere not starved to win,if you feed barley to your birds just take notice on how long they start to fly for,its good stuff, dont knock it has it is a good grain to tighten them up.

I usually use a sanner to tighten things up les, ;D Bareley is good at certain times, you can hopper feed it without risking the birds getting fat

Merlin Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Have always held beliefs that Barley is one of the essential grains a fancier can feed his birds,at various percentages all year round, possibily maligned because of its relative cost in comparsion to other grains, with a school of thought amongst many,if its cheap, its not good enough for birds, this is a common trait among many aspects of our sport.
