Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I wouldnt worry about them landing on the house roof mate mine do it but when racing trap fine nine times out of ten landing on the house roof first. I have found by feeding a light feed in the morning i use a diet mix about half ounce per bird fed untill 3 birds go for a drink then stop and remove food. I only let out in the evening and after they have flown get them in straight away dont let them sit out. I trap mine to a trapping mix only a small handfull when they get used to this you will find they all shoot in to try and get some of this mix the ones that dont get any will be first in the next day i asure u. Once they are all in they are then fed a higher protein mix 1 ounce per bird which i weigh out each day as y/b do there growing at night. I have had some great advice from members on here regarding feeding y/b. This is what i have been doing for a while now and its working great but what works for me may not work for u its all about finding what suits you and your birds then sticking to it.
selfblue Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 what about a depurattive feed in the morning then and then in the evening feed the mix i made up 1/2oz in the morning and 1oz in the night time feed i will try that see how that goes .
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 let us know how u get on with it
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 glad to hear it best of luck
pjc Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 when you are training is there somebody waiting to call them in when they get home? If not the problem is the birds will beat you home and sit on the roof waiting for you! In an ideal world cut the food back let somebody else take them training and the second the birds return call them in with food in the hopper waiting for them, when they get to know there is food waiting on there return they will go straight in on there own and not be interested in sitting on the roof.
Newbie2020 Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 How hungry should the young birds be when the go on the training toss?
fred x Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Hi selfblue, When ever you let them out at home , or when you are taking them for a training toss. if their are no one to call them in, always have a reward waiting for them. a small amount of food or a few peanuts (not to many), the one's that dont trap quick there is no reward left for them. The only way to train YB's is with food & treats.

You seem to be doing "OK" with this It all takes time My freind
