Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Has anyone ever known a red hen to have black splashes..?? Got a dark red cheq.. its got black splashes on the tail. But its showing no signs of being a cock.. Its march hatched.. Got a few dominant cocks in the loft.. so i was just assuming it was just being a little over shadowed..

Chris Little Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Only experienced this once, a red hen with slight black splashes on tail and she was quite a dominating bird
JAS Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Had a red black splash hen 4 years ago we were thinking it was a cock but would not pair so put it back in the young bird section with 2 spare cocks paired up and laid eggs within 2 weeks. must say that is the first we had seen a hen with black marks as we always thought they were cocks.
Guest bigbok Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 its a sex linked pairing how was it bred !!! black splashes means its impure for blue and the black 99%of time indicates cock the hens tend to have small brown/reddish ticks but occasionally hens carry the black !!!
