Guest shippy Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 hes finished let him enjoy his retirement
Reeco Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 he's not finished i've bred from 14yr old cock trm around his vent, or try half an asprin or HRT tablets for women, Reeco Swansea
Guest bigbok Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 at 10 if hes not filling i would try him on a a young hen and trim his vents correctly but would say also leave hm on the hen for the season not chopping changing i have a 01 bred cock that i bred 5 young from this year the first 3 rounds were clear!!!!
wayne77 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 I had a 14 year old fill his eggs this year....mind his 3rd round. But get him paired to young hen NOW and leave all winter.....will keep his bits in working order ;D If possible put him in yb section just him and his hen. As when you want the eggs other younger cocks will not be disturbing him. I use de weerdt belga vit E and Rhonfried vit E(can't remember exact name) Good luck
clyde Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 cut 25ml of his tail and trim round vent
joe61 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 leave him till the summer mate its to cold for old cocks to breed dont rush him wait till its warm and sunny he will fill his eggs then oh happy days
WulDon Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 we have had old cocks fail at 9yo and no matter what we tried in some case didnt work, at the moment we have a 13yo van loon stock cock who never misses an egg. however last season we had six old cocks between 9-12yo who were all throughing blanks! from that six i got four to produce with the aid of chorionic gonadotrophin, a substance used by human males who are trying to boost there own natural testosterone levels when trying for family, this works if you are trying to get an odd youngster or two from an old cock. since then we have came across a company in Holland (Intervet Inc.) that produces a product containing chorionic gonadotrophin + serum gonadotrophin, havent used it yet but i believe can also be used on hens to help ovulation.
Guest bigbok Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 trimming from his tail will serve no purpose avoid this all it will do is unbalance him when trimming the vents remember to leave the feeler feather around the clocea wayynes advice is also an the same line of thought as my own
Guest bigbok Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 why would you want to give anabolic steroids to a old racer or any of your birds at all !!!!
pigeonscout Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 A small amount of wheatgerm oil = vit E on his food for two weeks then pair him up this has worked for me. Also make sure any meds you are giving him are not stopping him from filling his eggs.
Wizzer Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Concentrate on breeding from your other cockbirds. Hes old and probably finshed producing, Just because older pigeons can breed, They are like everything else changes happen at diifferent stages of life. I had a good racing cock that went infertile at 4 yrs of age, he was an exceptional racer, and carried on racing until he was 7. He is 15 next year and will always rear a couple of rounds from eggs of another stock pair. he is extremly fit for his age and has`nt deteriated n any other way. Nature takes its coarse, And apart from messing with potions which will not work if he is finished producing for you. theres nothing anyone can do so put him with a hen and let him enjoy his final years.
ritchie1 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 trim his vent i got 6 last year from a 13 year old cock and didnt trim him this year and only got 1 so he will be trimed again next year at 15 years old
NW USA Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Wine and chocolates. Try leaving him with the hens instead of seperating him with the cocks.
Guest chrisss Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 leave him till the summer mate its to cold for old cocks to breed dont rush him wait till its warm and sunny he will fill his eggs then oh happy days this hurts but joe is right wait till it warms up, i have a 98 rung bird ,and i got 5 out of 6 eggs to hatch this year
holmsidelofts Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Hi we had the same problem with a cock who is 16 years old, We trimmed his vent feathers and locked him in a nest box untill his hen laid. They never came out of the nest box and both eggs were full, he hadnt filled his eggs for a couple of years prior to that even though we tried. I think he found it difficult driving his hen to nest and she would get a way from him as he wasnt that quick anymore. Bred 2 lovely youngsters out of him, he didnt rear them as i though it would take to much out of him so i undersat the eggs.
gangster Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 leave him till the summer mate its to cold for old cocks to breed dont rush him wait till its warm and sunny he will fill his eggs then oh happy days correct best advice
jimmy white Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 leave him till the summer mate its to cold for old cocks to breed dont rush him wait till its warm and sunny he will fill his eggs then oh happy days yes, would agree, he would be far better separated from his hen, untill the warmer weather, meanwhile a mixing of wheatgerm in his grub would do no harm,, ive heard selenuim and zinc will help, ,,,,,,,,,but it didnt help me ;D
