Guest Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 The RPRA is at the moment looking to award a contract for the collection of stray birds, quite a decent contract too. I would suggest all members of the association feed back to their local region or directly to the general manager their experiences of independant couriers since the demise of Amtrak. It is very important information which help the association select the best courier for the job.
Guest Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I actually think that it is such a job that the couriers need to BE MADE to work together by the RPRA with regard to the strays otherwise they should be excluded from the list and the network. Example www.pigeoncourier.co.uk mainly cover the East of England however have ventured and continue to venture further on a regualar basis there must be common ground for all the couriers and i would presume Southern Pigeon couriers concentrate their effort on exactly that the South of England etc etc im not leaving a company out on purpose merely pointing out how it could work with central meeting. Realistically with the Scottish courier service no courier would have to enter Scotland, maybe not for their own work but for the network set up by the RPRA. Im not into logistics i get bored senseless in the car 30 miles so doing 12-14 hours a day is something i wouldnt dream of but surely the network could work if managed correctly and independently, if the collections dont suit a courier then another steps in. I know my idea is the bare minimum for an idea and needs a lot more thought by those in the know, but if David Bills is only in the job of GM for a couple of years then what a structure and legacy to leave with. Agreed to that end I think there are a few couriers looking that way. However feedback is important, it's no good complaining after the event if we get it wrong
Chairman Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Yes I totally agree, now is the time to get around the table together and work things out, and may I also add that my opinion is that members of the rpra council and the BHW show comittee are mandated to setup funding to allow this project to be carried out, instead of giving our thousands of pounds away each year. I would also like to see a significant investment into research regards our birds health as they do in Belgium (University of Ghent) and also into more intensive research into the dreaded fancier's pigeon lung disease.Although I am of a charitable kind, I believe in the words of our Prime Minister "it is with prudence, now we find ourselves in this economic and very unstable financial climate it is time that our charity begins at home, food for thought?
