personally i think couriers should supply boxes becuase otherwise boxes will be getting used more than once which could lead to the spread of diseases

This was one of the hot topics of last year if you remember.  Cross contamination when the courier handles different birds if they help box them etc, moreso in stray season though. Everyone was spoilt with Amtrak but then again they did charge £30 quid and the prices were going up just before they went under so boxes should have been supplied as per my comment earlier.

£47.50 for Scotland?   That's hellish steep, if I as a small concern can do it comfortably for no more than £40 from the bottom of Cornwall to as far as Aberdeen then so should others, £35 was about the most we charged last season if I'm right.  How JM can do it for as little as £25 beats the hell out of me but I respect the way they choose to work and genuinely wish them the best of luck and certainly would not beat them up for not supplying boxes at that price.  Cheap at half the price and that's coming from a competitor   :)

Come on lads give these couriers a break, i'm sure they are doing their best out there for you.

One Courier i have spoken to is up at 5am every morning and is not home until 10pm most evenings.

They are not Amtrak, they don't have a van in every town so they are doing a hell of a lot of miles to get your birds to you.

Has anyone ever stopped to think how much their diesel bill is every week. There's also wages to pay not to mention the wear and tear on their vehicles.

I do not  be-grudge them one penny of the £35 they charge, they also have the same bills as we have to pay, Mortgages, electricity, gas etc etc etc.

JM Couriers do a fantastic job but they also have other animals and reptiles that they deliver so that is why they can keep the prices low.

I used UK Pigeon Couriers last week and the boxes were not only provided but the shavings were also in the box ready to put the birds in.

I also spent a while chatting to Dave the owner of UK Pigeon Couriers, he's a great guy who is also a fancier himself with a vast knowledge of the sport.

There are couriers out there who are charging slightly cheaper rates but some don't have any idea of pigeons and the impotance of making sure they in the same condition when they were dropped off as when they were picked up.

Pigeon Traker you sit there once again knocking these guys about their prices, i'm sorry that you have problems at home and are unable to provide the service you promised but it's wrong to knock other couriers and have your little digs whenever a topic of couriers arises.

The choice of couriers are there, if you don't want to use a courier because you feel their prices are too steep then don't use them, it's simple. I for one will continue to use a courier whom i know i can trust with my birds and not go for the chepest option and maybe not see my birds for days. ( This is not a dig at JM Couriers) but there are the horror stories out there about birds not being picked up, or not being delivered for 3 or 4 day.

I wish all the GOOD couriers the best of luck and i just hope they don't read some of the comments made on here by some members or it will come to the stage when they think "is it all worth it" and then where will the fancier be when there's no couriers out there.

Roof Pigeon,

Absolutely correct in what your saying about these couriers spending time on the road and cost of fuels etc.  I know of one courier who delivers nearly every day of the week and very rarely gets home.  I have known him to travel miles to pick up one pigeon, where's the profit in that. ?  I think he's away from home so much, he's forgotten his wifes and kids names so I fully agree, "give em' a break".

Personally, I feel any fanciers who come onto these forums and knocks these couriers, for what ever reason, is sealing there own fate. Why we just don't give these knockers a shovel and allow them to dig their own hole is beyond me. I have watched these forums since the demise of Amtrak, and for every thread, started by a fancier, praising the efforts of a given courier, nine out of every ten end up with some knocker, trying to put them down with "anti" comments. If courier X charges amount A, and courier Y charges a different price, who the hell are we to publicly agree or disagree with those charges. We, the fancier, have a choice of who we use, A CHOICE WE NEVER HAD WITH AMTRAK, IT WAS TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, and we all know of the horror stories that they were responsible for.

Then we have the other situation of a particular courier who appears, like a nasty rash, and cannot resist the temptation of making comments about other couriers. Many of these couriers have far more experience and have been in the courier/logistics industry far longer than he has, and yet he still tries to advise them on how to go about there business. When have any of us seen another courier come on here and try to advise the other couriers on how they think their business should be run. NONE. I recall a comment saying "The good ones will survive and the rest will fall by the wayside". The reason these good ones have survived is simple, THEY GO ABOUT THEIR OWN BUSINESS, AND DON'T HAVE TIME TO COMMENT ON THE OPPOSITION. These will be the ones that will be here long after the 'dreamers' have gone.

Agree with you, it's a heck of a job and those that took their time and have a good business plan seem to be succeeding and good luck to them.We need them and they need us. If the couriers say you have to supply your own boxes or we can't collect what will you do?

Didn't realise Pigeon Tracker had failed?

I realise that the courier business is a well debated issue on here, but to echo what has already been said but you guys are lucky to have a choice of couriers and yes there may be some that do things differently to others, whether good or bad.

But can we please refrain from knocking the couriers, if you have used them and something went wrong or you received bad service, then thats fine for you to let others know. But can we please not have long topics of couriers knocking each other. At the end of the day, everyone should be working together irrespective of whether they are the courier or customer  :) :) :)

you say sir 47.50 is hellish steep, well at the back end of last year my son needed to send 2 pigeons to scotland to a gentleman on this forum and you quoted £50 !!!!!!!!

thats why we shall not use you at all, you have a go at others and try to portray yourself as reasonably priced, dont do it my friend... your on slippery slope.

oh happy days :)

if someone wants to post about how good/bad a courier is thats fine but why does the same guy[every time] have to appear on the same thread telling everyone how bad all of the couriers are and how great he is,it happens all of the time [yet is always logged on as invisible?] please give it a rest fella if we want to use you we will,i for one do not think you are doing yourself any favors doing what you are doing now,

Pigeon Traker you sit there once again knocking these guys about their prices,.... it's wrong to knock other couriers and have your little digs whenever a topic of couriers arises.

First post and you come in on me, I'm flattered.  :-/  ;D   ;)

Too bloody right I'll condemn some couriers prices  >:( >:( >:(, some are taking the mickey and I'll be blunt about it whether it pleases or offends the said couriers, but I will never tell a fancier who to choose, or how much to pay, that's up to them.   Unlike some on here Pigeon Tracker actually put thier money where thier mouth is and are at least £12.50 cheaper than the couriers commented on and we only carry birds nothing else, if we can do it from one end of the Country to the best part of the other then so can anyone else.  ??)  What's wrong with pointing that out?  :-/

Someone just explained how JMCouriers manage to keep thier prices so low and I applaud them for being able to do so, I'd even use them myself for my own birds because they could get them to me cheaper than it costs me to get or send them so there's no critisism where it isn't due, even if you and a select few others try to make it out otherwise.  I can confidently go over every single one of my posts and show I NEVER critisice where it isn't due.     :o

It always seems the same with the courier posts, Pigeon Tracker stand up for the fancy and get slated for it.  :-/  Why the hell do you think Scotland is having so many problems getting their birds at the moment and having to pay so much extra than they did with us last year?  Its because of certain people and their constant big mouths slating Pigeon Tracker, for what?  standing up for the fancy and being honest about the prices the likes of the Scottish are having to pay?  It can't be for the quality of service that's for sure because that's one department we don't fall short in, even our arch enemy bigda can't say anything about that.   :P  ;)   ;D

Pigeon Tracker are passionate about the fancy and looking after them but for some unfathonable reason some just can't see the wood for the trees and are spoiling it for the rest of the fancy who we know for a fact are strugging to get their birds in or out and having to pay over the odds; talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.   :-/

Gemma (grizzle_hen) has politely asked me via p.m not to post in courier topics because she recognises that if Pigeon Tracker dare post a factual comment its like a red rag to a bull with a few select idiots who are hell bent on spoiling it for others by trashing good constructive threads so I'll respect her wish whether I like it or not.   :B

i dont think the fact of not supplying boxes is really knocking the great service that jm gives.

its just a very small part of it.

i personally would prefer to have a courrier supplying boxes but thats just me and no knocking anyone..before anyone jumps the gun. :P

i dont think as some put it like the courriers are there just to help us pigeon guys out...they are not they are there to make money ..fact...and im not saying that in a knocking way .they are a business full stop! :)

i will continue to use jm if they supply boxes or not because i think they are nice people....its the way all courriers should be ..it enhances their business popularity.

ill have the kettle on when they arrive if they ever want a cuppa as they have done in the past :);)

best of luck to jm this season :) :) :)
