Beckie Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hello, I have just been in Chatham Highstreet, Kent and there is a pigeon with a tag on it's leg (which I assume is a racing pigeon) trapped inside an unoccupied shop. I'm not too sure who I need to contact to help it?? I am going back in to town tomorrow and will see if I can make the numbers out on the tag if it is still in there and there is a letterbox that I could push some food(?) through but doubt I'd be able to get water to it. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Beckie
paul10121968 Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 its an awkward one.maybe you could make some enquiries and find out who the owners of the shop are so that they can let him out.water and food are very important,if the bird is trapped without either he will only last a few days.sorry i could not be of more help and thank you for caring.regards paul.
Guest Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 contact the rspca they will get it out thanks for your trouble trying to help this poor bird
Peckedhen Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Thanks you for caring Becky. I guess that you could try the RSPCA though, if there's no publicity in it for them, they might not want to know.... hmmm, how about the local paper? It must be worth a story ...Poor thing, I wonder how it got in there :-/
Guest Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 the rspca are spot on if anybody can get it out they will they will get the police to get in if necesary but if the bird has means to get in and out they wont touch it maybe there is a window open/broken at the back of the property
Beckie Posted June 6, 2009 Author Report Posted June 6, 2009 I tried contacting the rspca and the automated message said to contact the royal racing pigeon association which is shut until monday. I'm going back into to town tomorrow so will see if the shops next door know who to owns the building. Hopefully it's managed to get out by the time I arrive tomorrow but I can't see how it got in. Will try to get it some water, and there is a pet shop nearby so will get some bird seed to it.
Guest IB Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 My thoughts too Frank, bird must have got in somehow, maybe a broken window at rear of shop. Shop owners would be interested in that. Local police would be best bet, they'll know the shop owner & have a contact number, and they'll be interested in making sure premises are in fact secure.
