The Woodys Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I noticed a racing pigeon in our garden near Stockport a couple of days ago and gave it some food. It has appeared again today (Saturday 9th August) so I've captured it, it's number is GB08S96843. I can't see a telephone number on its wing. I've phoned the British Racing Pigeon association to try to identify its owner but they are not open until Monday. I've put the bird in a cat carrier on some newspaper, fed it some wild bird seed and given it some water. Am I best keeping it until I can find out who owns it or letting it go again after it has rested? Will it be comfortable on the newspaper or would it be better with a perch? How much shall I feed it - it seems to be very hungry but I don't want to over feed it.
trueblue Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 look at the wing it mite have a phone number in a name on it
Guest shadow Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 It will be ok in the basket and if you feed it a bit at a time it will stop when its had enough. Had a look at the ring list and unfortunately you will have to report to the rpra on monday. true blue if you read the report they have checked the wings
PIGEON_MAN Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 The ring is registered to someone in the West Walsall Fc,Secs number is 01922 613597.
The Woodys Posted August 9, 2008 Author Report Posted August 9, 2008 Thanks, I've given the secretary a ring, she said she'd contact its owner and get them to phone me. I'll keep the pigeon comfortable in the meantime.
The Woodys Posted August 9, 2008 Author Report Posted August 9, 2008 Since speaking to the club sec of West Walsall I've realised that I should have been looking on the upper side of the pigeon's wing for ID not the underside. I've now got the name of it's owner (no phone number) but not heard from them yet, if anyone knows who Pilbeam and Pearl of Walsall are please will you ask them to get in touch with me on 07732663044. The bird seems to be getting it's strength back but I'd prefer to get it back to its owners rather than just release it. Sara
Guest chrisss Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 its great what you are doing for this bird, but "Pilbeam and Pearl of Walsall " should have called you not the other way around
The Woodys Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 Thanks to everyone who helped me trace the owner of this lost bird, he/she was collected by Amtrack today. Sara.
