Hi. I have found a pigeon in Ripley Derbyshire, that seems lost. I can tell this bird has been hand raised and very well cared for. I am know expert but I think its a young male. No tattoo or ring on though, this is a lovely bird and I would like to return it to its owner. Please email me if you know of anyone losing a bird. billin-dragon33@hotmail.co.uk

Thank you for taking the trouble to care for the bird but without any i.d ring it will be difficult to trace the owner if it has one.

If you are able to post a picture of the bird may help with identification.

im  sorry to sound pesimistic but if the bird is not carrying a ring to identify it then there is no way of tracing it to the owner

could this be a stolen bird with a ring cut off?

thats why i am saying that. there have been a number or loft robberys lately. It looks way too good for a streeter.

well done for going to the trouble of looking after a lost pigeon  when i first read the posting i thought that it was probably a young feral/street pigeon but after looking at the photo it looks as if its been bred and cared for by somebody    as it doesnt have a identity ring its not possible to trace the owner but maybe someone in your area who keeps pigeons can ask about for you as it may belong to somebody local?  it will probably be hungry and thirsty so any type of bird seed will do for now but make sure it has a dish of water to drink from at all times   if you can get pigeon corn then all the better but if not then you can give it rice or lentils, barley, crushed peanuts (unsalted) or even bread crumbs   kev :)

josh could well be right about it being a stolen pigeon thats had its ring cut off    if you dont end up tracing the owner then maybe a local animal sanctuary will take it off your hands and give it a home    kev :)

He's sleeping in a cat box. I have loads of wild bird seed so he's got that and some water. He just seems happy to sleep at the moment. Think he's been scared and confused being all alone in the street. My daughter found him. He was just sitting in the road, a police lady tried to move him on lol. But my daughter could see he's was tired and fed up. She picked him up and  at once he settled in her hands as though he now felt safe. He's very healthy nothing wrong apart from exhausted .

i would keep him in for another day to help him rest and recover and then give him his freedom to see what happens.

how refreshing to see someone go to the lenghts you have to try and help the bird, you ought to be proud of yourself.  As everyone else has said though, unless its been microchipped and I doubt I doubt it has then there  is little or no chance of it ever getting repatriated.    Once again, well done and thanks on behalf of all pigeon fanciers.

The pigeon was so lively today and eager to get out that I took it to the garden, it was a perfect day sun shining , so I opened the box. He sat there for a minute or two and then flew up to the roof top. He sat there for a good 20 minuets getting his bearings and then flew off in to the sky looking as though he new where he was going. I left some food out for him and kept an eye out all day but he seems to have gone now. I only hope he makes it home safe. At least he knows where to come for food this time. Thanks for being so nice, and thanks for all the advice. I am one of those's people who never turns any creature away if it needs help . Have saved a magpie and a jackdaw this summer as well as the pigeon :)
