Whites and grizzles i dont think you have a lot of hope getting them back, people not all but some have an automatic instinct to put it to stock, i have seen it happen - hence the reason mine aint going out!!

Billy told me a story yesterday how he reported a stray bird.

The guy said to send it with Amtrak and he would square Billy up, being Billy he did, Billy only has a mobile and kept phoning the guy for his money. A month later he gets a letter from the post office to collect a parcel. The guy sent it all in coppers and Billy had to pay the extra postage due to the wieght of it, plus all the phone calls.

And you wonder why sometimes >:(

if that is true, where do the strays come from originally,,,,,in the loft !!!!

Very good question! there are duffers in all family's, I had a pair of birds many years ago given to me, the cock bird was lost training as a youngbird and was reported by a non fancier when it landed on his car while he was washing it for a drink from the hose. He was collected and lost again as a yearling, this time being reported eating the workmans lunch in the gas works workshop.

His nestmate had 7 1st's!

As owners and fanciers it sends out a bad image of the sport in general, especially to the public non fanciers, when birds are not reported/collected regardless of their ability, they are our responsibility, and in answer to original question its the fancy in general thats at fault,so time to start looking at our own practice,.

JUST A THOUGHT WOULD IT NOT BE A BIT EASIER IF THE UNIONS ...RPRA/WHU/IHU/SHU/NWHU/NEHU  ALL PUT RING LISTS ON THERE WEBSITES MAKING IT EASIER FOR YOU 2 FIND WERE THE BIRDS FROM WITHIN SECONDS.....

RPRA do but your probably have to wait about another month yet usually comes out about middle of May

Are the codes not the same every year as in DF for Dundee federation  :-/

Irish Homin Union webpage contains this info for last three seasons with clubs and Sec contact numbers, agree with Rose & Gangster definitely makes it a lot easier, and a positive step, but at the end of the day again its down to fanciers.
