And one at a year old has a lot to learn.I like to leave my lurchers till there 2 years old So they a mature enough. Then start there training out in the field.ie lamping ferreting.and mouching around.i know a lot of lads start with younger dogs, but at 2 years old works for me. I like to work on obedience and retrieving and recall. Before they start there working life. jmo at 15 months old my dogs would of already been on the bolters ferreting and out on a few mooch's learning them what to do by this i dont mean 100 yard slips easy slips 25 yarders 50 yarders keeping it simple all my dogs ive owned have started off around 9 months just retriveing ball learning them to chase it and bring it back to me wonce they have learnt that at 12 months old they would of been out 1 time a week ferreting with me no nets down with an experienced dog to learn them the ropes at 15 months they would be out wonce a week on the lamp learning them to run down the beam on easy runs at 2 years old they would of learnt everythink they need to no as soon as as lamp lifts up and i say look up and slip the dog there running straight down the beam but thats just me.

chucka Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 why do you want one that old ,it will come with all its bad habits you just might not like , very true get a younger one train it the right way if you going to be getting one at 1 year old at least make sure it comes with an trial out in the field i dont no the dog so cant say if its anygood but wouldnt go in there with the views of buying without seeing with my own eyes what it is capable of a lot of bull is said around lurchers my dog can take this single handed my dog took this amount in one night dont believe it until you have seen it with your own eyes just my views anyway. the lad said its bein on the lamp only one outing and did not catch
