Guest Owen Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 If push comes to shove you can always make one yourself. The best material is 8X4 shuttering ply, good one side, on a 2X2 frame. The most important thing is to overlap the sides onto the base so that it would be impossible to get rain into it. The roof is again very important. It has to be constructed so that the air can circulate fully. And the roof should overlap the sides, front and back by at least 1ft. You can always construct the roof with a lip to ensure that the driving rain can not get into your loft. The loft should face the sun for most of the day and the front should have as much polycarbonate sheeting in it as you can. The polycarb allows lots of light in. Make the windows so that they will open which allows you to trap your birds quickly and to leave them open with a mesh screen in the summer for maximum air to enter. The floor should be made so that you have insulation material trapped underneath in a false floor. 4" thick would be ideal. This will be invaluable when you need to keep the temperature stable in the early part of the year. Another important feature is to have a really good gap underneath the loft so that you can keep vermin away. And done correctly you can even use it for storage. And finally, you should end up with a nice neat loft that will have been a lot cheaper than if you had to buy it.
